Windsheild? Anyone have one for their bike.

I've been looking at the ATV type with quick release and wondered if anyone else has experimented with this?

I would think there wiould be too much wind resistance. But if you just want to keep the cold off of you and ride at slow speeds, it might be just the ticket.

Got one on my goldwing right over the stereo speakers, but not the dirt bike. Have a sport fairing on the SV650 with a Zero Gravity double bubble.

Yeah, but it couldn't be any worse than my not-so-aerodynamic body cutting through the wind. I feel like a parachute when I ride 50-60mph. I haven't had that feeling for a long while. My other bike is a Kawasaki Concours.

A guy in my local DS club made his own out of a plastic bucket:

He said it made a big difference on the road, cuts a lot of wind to the chest.

You can do the same with a chunk of plexiglass. You can either drape form it in the oven over a mold you make out of sheet steel (temperature is critical) or just use a heat gun to heat and bend.

Dirt bikes ain't supposed to have windshields, though!

Do ya see a winshield on Carmichael's 450? How about McGrath's motard, does it have a windshield? Those motards get up over 100 mph in the asphalt sections. You just scoot a bit back on the seat and lean into it and enjoy the breeze.

Hey, 55-60 ain't bad at all. You ought to try 170 on an old school GS1000 Yoshimura superbike.

Never been 170, but I did have a GS850 (no windsheild) that would hit 125mph stock. Fantastic bike! Man, I sure wish I still had that old bike. Still, I'm not missing anything really with the Concours. Right out the box, this thing is faster and is as fast as I need to go anywhere.

The bike of which I speak was an endurance ride I had back in the late 70s and it was scary fast. We finished 10th in the Lester Wheels WERA endurance series nationally in open superbike and second in CRRC open superbike and never left Texas to race.

My SV650 is faster than necessary in a 70 mph world.

I did the drape forming thing and have used a heat gun on plexiglass. Neither is terribly tough to do and for what you want, I'd suggest you look into that. It only takes a small screen to keep the wind blast off your chest. I had a small quarter fairing on a VX800 that I fashioned a screen for, was an old Vetter Sting that had a cracked screen. It worked out great. I took that thing to Sturgis one year, 1500 miles one way from here. Rode it 800 miles in one day coming home. My back was in good shape, though I thought it had given me a hemorrhoid for a while when I got home. :?

I don't think my 200 would push much of a windscreen, especially against a decent wind.

A lot of these are quick release and pretty much universal as most simply attach to the handlebars. National Cycle has been making these for many years. Slipstreamer and Maier are a couple of good names to look at, too

I've got a faceshield plastic that I'm fitting to my headlight fairing to divert the wind over my head. The're cheap and plentiful at any industrial safety supply outlet. Just another thought and inexpensive. A friend of mine did this on his Harley chopper and it really worked out pretty neat.
