Spot the Hawk

Shouldn't be to hard, with the low seat height compared to the dirt-bikes, and the tail light obviously lol.

Did my first ever race at a hare scramble here last weekend! Don't plan on racing more, but just wanted the experience of riding in one after watching a bunch of moto-x and enduro racing.
Passed a few riders, but mostly just got passed (I became pretty familiar with the backs of 2-3 people who lapped me a couple times too lol).
Wrecked a couple times, but was able to do a quick pit stop to bend the shifting lever back into a usable position and finish the race, ended up riding and finishing the full 90 minute race and it was brutal.
The Hawk definitely isn't cut out for racing, but it got me through the whole way which I think is saying something.
It does make me want to get a purpose made enduro or dirt-bike, although I'd gladly ride a Chinese one if it fit the bill.

AWESOME! A great adventure and a great Hawk showing! Nice to represent CR's like that too. :-)
BTW, SSR builds a purpose built MX bike. The mags say that "with a little help", they can do the job....and I'd say you're in front of the guy in the torquoise...

Yep, you both got it. Next to those other bikes I look short, although pretty sure I'm taller than most of them at 6'1" normally lol.

Wow good job getting the Hawk out there! Can you see if anyone possibly uploaded some YouTube videos of this event?

Those other bikes must be crazy tall. I thought the Hawk came in at 33" or so?

I'll keep my eye out for videos, I also had my go-pro on but the video quality sucks due to dust and mud getting on it pretty much right off the bat.

I think the hawk looks a bit shorter due to the dip in the saddle, it's a piece of cake for me to flat-foot on both sides. On even a smallish 125 or 250 dirt bike I'm either on my toes or leaning to one side.

Where's Waldo?

Kudos for entering the Hare Scramble.

P.S. I also found you in the photo.

Just in front of a rider in Teal (and to the left of the orange camelback) is where I see a HAWK in it's 'natural' environment

As comfy as the seat is on the Hawk, I can clearly see why the saddles are so high on the more hardcore dirt bikes and enduros. My knees are still toast from all the standing up and sitting back down, it's a long way to get back down to the seat, whereas on the taller bikes you are already in almost an upright position when riding seated. Not as much movement to get fully stood up.

Anyways, now that I got the racing itch more or less out of my system, I think I'm ready to convert the bike back to it's original dual-sport configuration and get it plated.

I feel like I'm running into some of its limitations by treating it like a pure dirt-bike, mainly the suspension travel and weight when hitting good sized bumps and jumps at high speed, and wrestling with the weight a little bit when the bike gets squirrelly in sand.
But as damn reliable as it's been, especially after getting crashed and abused a ton, I think it's going to be my go-to for riding out to the trails in the mountains and back home.
The relatively low power hasn't bothered me, it still gets around well, and I figure I'm trading some power for a really bullet-proof engine.

I imagine a number of those were 2smokes with twice the power as you.

Wow, is the hawk really that much shorter? I bought a 295mm shock which will make it even shorter. Any pics of it side by side with dirt bikes?

A typical motocross bike has a 37 to 38 inch seat height vs the Hawks 35. Doesnt sound like much, but it makes a difference. The bigger factor is that MX bike seats are more or less flat front to back while the Hawk seat dips down fairly low in relation to the pegs and tank. Sitting lower in the bike and being more rigidly locked in place so that you cant shift back and forth in the seat.

looks like very fast terrain...
how long was the circuit

I haven't ridden a hare scramble for years
our tracks were 10km plus race's were 3 hours in length..
and a lot more hilly... but that's just the NZ terrain we have to use..

I never was that good at MX or Hare Scrambles.. just wasn't fast enough..
But enduro's were a different story... not much would slow me or stop me...
