Mikuni carb on hawk with 117.5 main results

I tried a 117.5 main with a 27.5 pilot. Did the plug chop with the bike on a stand 3 times. Twice on full throttle and once on half. The spark plug looks good, tan color. Road test also no bogging but I can't power wheelie like the rest of you can in 1st and 2nd at all. Can't really notice the power.

Isn't it suppose to be that tan color? I figured it would be black is it was rich..unless I'm looking at the wrong part of the spark plug to judge..is it suppose to be read from just the ring?

What kind of weirdo plug is that? I would really recommend an NGK Iridium. Makes for a very inexpensive but easily noticeable improvement.

None of those fancy plugs are any good, these are far better:

I have heard good and bad about the E3 plugs automotive wise. It appears the particular vehicle makes a difference in the performance of the plug.

Seriously tho get yourself the NGK Iridium. You will immediately notice a difference in the idle smoothness.

I tried an E3 in my lawnmower and it made it very difficult to start. Replacing it with an Iridium made a HUGE difference.

I think the colour is good. I agree that an NGK is a worthwhile swap.

Thumbs Up

If Weld likes that color, then its safe to take his advice. He's done this bit "once or twice", (He may have more tuning experience on these type motors than any one else here!

*Still*, for the way i run, i tune a tad leaner than that. Its a trade off between a "skosh" more power('leaner is meaner") and sometimes a LOT more heat around the heads. inversely, richer (darker) is cooler and easier on the valves (either way make SURE the valve lash is set right.
bottom line- stay dead away from near white or near black.

Shouldn't I notice a significant power increase? Only thing I noticed was the idle smoothness and start up. But everyone on this forum who did the swap said they were able to power wheelie 1st and 2nd. Mine wont snap up. Im still on the stock sprocket. Im going to try the other the 115 and 110 today.

Just did a plug chop under load 3rd gear full throttle with a 115 main jet. Should I even bother trying the 112.5 or 110? It looks lean with the 115. I'm just dissapoints that I'm not getting the power wheelie thats everyone else is getting with their hawks!

Maybe the Pilot/Slow Jet need more fine tuning for the "power wheelie"?

What gearing/sprockets are you running?
