Head Scratching Exhaust Leak or normal noise?

Hey guys take a listen and see what you think. I'm trying to figure out if I'm really chasing an exhaust leak or is that just how these bikes sound.

Sounds like its leaking a bit to me.

Maybe use a spray bottle with a little bit of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil is less expensive and cleans up carbon deposits better than SeaFoam) and spray it past the air filter/into the carb while the bike is running (with a warm/hot engine), it will create a "Smoke Show" so please do to it outside...

MMO (or SeaFoam, Power Foam, etc.) will help show you every place your exhaust is still leaking ... depending on what you use, it will also help clean gum/varnish/carbon deposits while you track down your leak

It's tough to tell in the garage, but perhaps you could try a smoke test with a candle. Light a candle, blow it out and place it near the header; does the exhaust blow the smoke away?

Leaking or not, your bike sounds like it's running really well. Nice work!

Success!! So after loosing the mounting bolts, tourqing the headr to 15lbs the retightening everything I still had a ticking. BUT then I took a ride and when I got back I realized the sound was gone. So I'm thinking getting the pipe up to temp and maybe the vibration from the ride finally seated everything.

No more exhaust leak either way, so just a damn loud pipe now. Have to talk to a couple exhaust guys and see if one of them can fit the exhaust I bought. It's really close to fitting just needs a couple tweaks.

When it comes to videos I don't know what I'm doing so I might have to edit my post. Those are Hawks but some people are also using them on TT 250's.

It took me over an hour just to drill out the stainless steel header mounting bracket with a 1/2 inch heavy duty drill. It's old and slow but I did use a 1/2 inch cobalt bit. It would be better to take it to a machine shop to have it done.

Don't forget to use some kind of "oil" to keep the drill bit clean, cool, and sharp while drilling

Yup saw those videos, watched them a few times, but I have different problems. The header actually bolts right up my issue is from the header back. Need to find someone to "adjust" the pipe so it clears the frame and clutch linkage. It's a larger diameter pipe then what is currently on the bike so that's what's causing the fitment problems where space is tighter.

But I really need a darn exhaust, this thing is too loud and I'm too old for that nonsense
