Clutch diode

Where is the clutch diode located on the hawk? Neutral light comes on when I disengage the clutch. I believe the clutch diode is bad.

I would be looking for a problem switch not a diode.

It's not the switch. It's the diode. I just can't locate it.

Never heard of a clutch diode before ,can you tell us how you came to this conclusion ? .The only diodes common on a bike are in the rectifier and the turn signal circuit .The neutral light circuit typically consists of a switch and a bulb ,with the switch being located around the countershaft sprocket area of the bike .Often the wires get pinched under the engine cover .I can think of no reason to have a diode in the circuit unless the idiot light does multi functions .

The clutch safety switch is tied to the neutral safety switch. The diode only allows current to run one direction. If the diode fails it will allow current to run both ways. So now when the lever is pulled the neutral light will come on. This was common on older Hondas. There is one on there some where. Just not sure if it is hard wired in there or a plug in diode like on a Honda shadow. The Zongshen rx3 has a clutch diode according wiring diagram.

Iam not sure if my Blaze is the same but seeing how no one else is stepping up mine is under the gas tank by the rear of the tank on the left side soldered not plugged and taped up in the main wiring harness. You might be able to find the diode by squeezing the harness. Good luck.

NOW this all makes sense. Thank you for the explanation. I was wondering why anyone would use a diode in a clutch safety switch arrangement, and now, thanks to you, I know.

I went out this morning and traced it down. It was taped up in the harness under the tank. Mine plugged in but if you take the cap off it it had a diode in it that was burnt in two. I pulled a diode off an old motherboard i had laying around and solder it in. Everything is working. Thanks Merlin but beat you to it lol

Update

After I put everything back together I went out a took a little 78 mile ride and still working. I forgot to mention that the clutch diode had stop working after I had replace the sending unit on the gas tank. The one that came on the bike had stop working the 1st trip I had made with the bike. I may have smashed a wire or something in the process that may have shorted the diode. who knows? Good news is now I have a working fuel gauge and I'm not guessing if I have it in neutral or not before I release the clutch.

Thanks for the explanation. My Lifan has a diode and I wasn't sure what it was for, so I left it there. Glad I did.

Well the wiring diagram that's in the Hawk owners manual is useless. The diode is drawn in but not labeled. It's a good thing I know electronics and knew what the symbol meant. I have built and repaired many computers in my life time. I'm still waiting to hear back from RPS. I don't think they know where or what it is. lol

The diode on my bike is found in the harness behind the headlight, IIRC. I figured it had something to do with residual energy after shutting the bike off, but I never bothered to trace it. Like you, I pirated two diodes from an old PCB to enable the LED turn signal on my TW200, because I'm way too cheap to actually go buy some.

Update: APSCUSA has come through again. New Clutch diode has been sent out. I'll have a back up in case it happens again.
