New tires Shinko 705

I would not have changed them but I bent a rim and figured what the heck. I ride 95% street so I thought these would be good for me. Also went ahead with the 17 and 43 sprocket combo. (already had the 17)

Convenience tax) I had no idea what I was doing. I lifted the bike on my shop stool and strapped it on and strapped the front forks straight. Man it came apart so easy............

I had the tires put on the rims and balanced at a local shop for $25 each. $$$ well spent as I had no tools to do so.

Just took a little patience to put it all back together.

My riding impressions. Smooth, at low speed I do not feel the knobs anymore. No more tread squirm. It seems very responsive. I did not push it as the tires are not broken in yet but I have a lot more confidence in cornering. Also the sprockets make a HUGE difference.

Still to come..........oil cooler, fork brace and what else?

Our bikes could almost be twins lol.

Fun little tidbit for you about the 17/43 sprockets on the 120/80-18 rear tire. It has the same effective gearing as a 17/45 on the stock 110/100-18.

Roundhouse, I have the 705's on my DR, and love them. I do mostly street riding with the DR, but everytime I've ever taken it out into the dirt the tires hooked up and dragged me around just fine. I will say that in really loose stuff, the front end pushes quite a bit when entering corners, so be aware of that. Also, the rear tire can load up and slide around if you're in very slick mud. Other than those small and to-be-expected issues, I think you'll really be happy with the tires. Please keep us posted, and maybe do a couple of ride reviews if you have the time.

AGREED..

the 705 work quite well on any thing firm to hard I use to use them on
my Yamaha XT660R... The only thing I had issues with was braking on a lose surface
but is is not a big drama once you are aware of it...

Thanks for the heads up amerikol. I will put that in my brain!

megadan I am waiting for you to get that head on. I want to see how it goes. My son is in his motorcycle safety course for his license today. He may be taking over the hawk........when I let him. But it will be fun to ride together.

noted. might not be as pronounced on the hawk as it is almost 100# lighter but it will be there for sure.

Coming soon! I just need to finish up my VFR first, and that should hopefully be done next weekend.

I have 705s on my CB500X and it stays offroad more than on road. The only places I have problems is mud and deep sand. I can usually avoid those. I can drag pegs on the 705s.

Last night I ordered a 170/60 to replace the 150/70 on my CB500X. A member on another forum rides hard and rides far. He runs the Shinko 705 and the Full Bore which is the same as the 705. He suggested stepping up in size since it's a known fit.

I took this pic this morning. It the 150/70 on my CB500X. It has right at 8000 miles on it. I'm planning to put about 500 more on it this weekend unless my tire shows up Friday morning. I'm expecting to return with a thin tire.

cool man. I wish I had gone a little wider in back. I realize it is stock size the knobbies on the stockers make the tires look wider. I guess aesthetics are not as important as performance and the these will do fine.

To go any wider than a 120 would require a wider rim. A 120 is about the max on a 2.15 width rim.
