New Bashan BRS 250 'Raven'

Edit 6/2: Right after I bought my bike ($1250) the price went up to $1399...then last week, went up to 1499 (all with $280 shipping)...now they are sold out! TXPS's price just went up to $1699 with free shipping (do you guys know you are paying tax on your shipping this way?...when you get your plates.) WOW, must be the hot ticket!

I must be dyslexic...it's BSR, not BRS. And it should be "BRAVEN!" Much better bird, or maybe the ROOSTER! Haha!

It finally arrived after 3 weeks since ordering. Spent the day lock-tighting, installing, etc...but when I was adjusting the valve clearance's I noticed an inordinate amount of motor oil on the flywheel through the peephole...the question is...is that normal? My Z50 is dry as a bone. Here's proof it's happening!

Yep, it's normal. The stator is mostly shielded by the flywheel to prevent excessive oil exposure, and the windings are coated as well., The crankcase bearing is not a sealed unit to allow oil to come into the stator cover side of the engine in order to lubricate the sprag rollers and sprockets of the starter system. That is why both inspection plugs have O ring seals on them as well. Keeps the oil in.

Dan-thanks! I just had a flashback from your video installing the 4 degree key and everything seemed so clean...LOL. I knew the starter chain needed lube from somewhere, so thanks for that. On the plus side, I put in some gas and she cranked up seemingly instantly, so onward with more fun!

Herbie, I was torn between the blue-black and the grey-black...they both look great! What surprised me (my last bike was a Honda XR500 thumper in the 80's), is I forgot how BIG these bikes are...the seat is a serious 36 inches off the deck! Might have to go the Brozz shock route. My older-self has a hard time throwing it's leg up-and-over, haha! At 5'11", I don't really have a problem reaching the ground...it's getting on the dang thing! Imagine wiping out on some hill and trying to get back on it! Here's some more eye-candy! (For reference as to the size of these...that is an 8 ft. garage door!).

The bike looks nice. A question; one of the sites says the rims are 19" and 17". Your box said 21" and 18". Which is it? The above pictures sure look like that's a 21" front tire.

Edit: I see Orion says it's 21"/18". This site says it's 19"/17".

Dustin, my first choice was blue and my snd choice was black. I would have been fine with either one!

David 3..., it is absolutely astounding the level some of these "Dealers" will go to perpetuate wholesale lying, incorrect data and being flat-out irresponsible with their actions and advertising! There should be better and enforceable laws to protect the buyers!

Here's a pic of the sticker on the tank. Question...What natural protection should you be paying attention to...what?...when you're riding in the field?...WHAT??? HAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah I understand completely, I’m a little taller at 6’1” but the Brozz was tall as well. I think it may be a tad taller than my xr250 or about the same. My old legs don’t swing as high anymore either.

Just thought I would share a little word of warning/FYI, with the Bashan BSR 250. This bike comes with a sensor built into the clutch lever mechanism that, if the bike is in gear, and you do not have the clutch lever depressed, the starter will not engage. However, I found that if you have just a little bit too much play in the cable adjustment, the sensor will not 'activate' and your starter will turn, (if you hit the starter button) causing the bike to take-off for parts unknown! It really just jerked forward a little, but why take chances. To remedy this I tightened the cable...so there was just a little bit of slack...and this seemed to fix the problem. The reason why I'm even addressing this issue is that I have never seen this before on other bikes. To really fix this problem, the clutch lever itself should have it's own return-type spring, not relying on the pressure from just the cable through the clutch mechanism itself. Just be aware of the potential problems with this, as this is definitely a safety issue. Now and normally, if you pull the clutch in, it will start in any gear, and it will not start if the clutch is out. If it's in neutral, it will start either way. Just good to know! What's the point of having a dual-sport...being able to ride trails...bashing through the bushes...hitting trees...without new Bark-Busters from Amazon. They were only $21 dollars (a copy of the $90 Acerbis?), super strong and match perfectly! With these, you can now safely ride those handlebars all the way down to the ground! LOFL! Here is a link:

The downside is it took a week MORE for the MCO and my DMV is still on an 'appointment' schedule (presumably because of the anti-vaxxers), so another 3 week wait...oh well.

I found this cheap 290mm shock on Amazon ($31.60) claiming '1200 LBS', so I figured...try it out...maybe you'll like it. The size difference was really concerning, but I installed it with no problems with as others have said, some extra washer-spacers. Lowered it about 1-1/2 inches, and thankfully, not enough to mess with the kick-stand. In the pics, the larger spring is the original and it was 305mm. I also lowered the front 3/4"s. The pics of the bike are before and after...hard to tell. I kind of liked it higher better, but I'll try this awhile.

6/23...well, I felt that the new shocks were much too soft and reverted back to the original...I'll keep it for possible future wife/consort/sale...here is the link if you're interested:
