adding a tach

I have a 2008 Rokata RKM it not a CDI bike I would like to add a tach and have been looking around to see where I would hook the tach to anyone have a clue?? any help would be great

Im not sure, but it might matter what kind of tach your hooking up, a digital might be easier, Im sure someone else knows more!

not sure who makes it. but there is a company out there somewhere that makes a tach that connects over the spark plug and the spark cable connects over it. brother has one on his go-kart.

TRY a Tiny Tach you can find them only for around $35-37 Also try Ebay...

Sorry need to clear up somthing I have the tach already what I was trying to find out is with out a CDI unit where is the best place to wire the tach to? Should I wire it direct to the coil or is there a better way?

If you have a Chinabike tach or another bike tach (I have replaced my tachless cluster with a Lifan cluster whith a tach), it will most likely need to be wired to the coil's primary(12VDC) wire. This is what I did. Works like a charm.

Yes thats what I'm doing sounds like the same thing I got a Chinabike cluster whith a tach and also reads MPH I was thinking that I would have to wire to coil 12VDC side but was not sure if maybe there was a better way.. Thanks

Your bike MUST have a CDI. The only other option is points and/or a distributor and I AM SURE that's not what it has. If you bought a tach from a China bike it is more then likely mechanical and the Roketa engines (at least mine) do not have a provision for the mech drive assembly.

Red I think I have the same bike as you .. As for the tach I got is ele. setup not mechanical.. As for the CDI I'm sure there is one some where but not under a plate like on some that say CDI ..

That plate that says CDI is just a cover for the OHC. The CDI is a black box under the seat as mentioned above. If the tach you got is electric, you just neeed the wiring diagram from the bike it is made for. Should be four wires, red = hot, black = ground, green = coil, white = tach light. If the colors are different, you gotta find out which is which.
