Surf Fishing

Okay, odd question but I want to take my Templar X surf fishing. Anyone have a set up they recommend? I see cheap rod holders on the jungle website for like $15 but curious how/where to mount them to be successful. Any tips/pic shares? Thanks in advance.

Though I'm yet to go fishing on my bike and did have the intention to do so.

I opted to go for a telescopic rod. I purchased a 10ft shimano for more beach/shore work but I feel a 9ft would have been the better choice overall, Mostly due to pack down length. The rod itself was not particularly expensive. Quality was fine for the price.

Not sure if I would ever be comfortable using rod holders on a bike, I've experienced to many snapped and damaged tackle situations on 4wd camping trips with rod mounted on the exterior.

I also have a 9ft 5piece take down travel fly fishing rod that could double as a spin stick but setup takes time...

Yeah, this is strictly for surf. For anything else I'll use a telescoping rod that can be more out of the way and not get damaged (I have cases for my smaller stuff). For surf I'm going to use a Daiwa 9ft rod. It isn't telescoping but does break down into two pieces. I'm hoping with a secure way to hold it and big ol' kickstand pad I'll be able to just ride up to where I want to jump off and cast. I appreciate you sharing your opinion/history.

I think the pack down on the 10ft telescopic shimano is no more than 2 ft.

even a 2piece 7ft is still over 3ft in length which is doable but I'm still comfortable with its travel length on a bike.

With the 9 ft rod ,each piece will be close to 4.5 ft ,I would try mounting them on the forks ,you are adding virtually no weight .
My son fabricated rod holders that attach to the foot peg on his crf450’s ,and angle to the subframe near the back of the seat ,he has done this for 20 years now with no problems .If your bike has a place for passenger pegs ,that would be the ideal spot for the lower mount .My son used some thin aluminum tubing ,but ABS or even poly pipe would work as well .
Finally,I have a 2 door Jeep wrangler ,not a ton of room ,I keep a Daiwa Minispin kit zip tied under the seat at all times ,nobody knows it’s there so theft is unlikely ,would make a great dirt bike fishing kit and they are $50.00 .

That's some good advice. I'm going to try this on my Templar X and I don't have the passenger pegs mounted. I might see about mounting on each side there...
