flushmount turn signals

Anyone out there install a set of flushmount signal lights? I am thinking I would like to make my own or buy a set or something. One of the rear ones is broken after an offroad adventure (just a note the tusk bark busters do an excellent job of busting rock as well).

I am thinking some cab mount lights might work? I want cheap and something that won't break next time I fall because I will fall. It is just the way I ride!

Thanks,

Glenski

I changed mine to flush mounts. They work well.

I got them at the local dealership for around $18. You can find them on
ebay as well. Just do a search for "flush mount turn signals". There are
many different kinds and sizes. I had to drill two holes and use a couple
of rubber washers I had as spacers so they would sit flush. you can see
what I mean in this pic. Hope this helps.

Left rear signal...

Right rear signal...

With the tail section installed...

Thanks, those look nice on your bike. The tail section of my Lifan doesn't really look like that though. I went out and had a look around tonight. I am not even sure where you would mount them on a Lifan such that they could still be seen with luggage on.

I went to Canadian Tire tonight and bought two cab mount LEDs for $10 each and some electrical tape and some connectors. I came home and think I have found a way to mount them such that they will still be visible when the rack is loaded with luggage.

I am not really sure how well they will work but I presume they will be okay and won't flash too fast or anything like that. They are just a plain old 12V LED. I know the stock bulbs are 10W each, not sure what the LEDs are for wattage.

They only have one wire coming off of them. I think that is the wire that would connect to the "red" wire from the existing and the "black" wire from the existing will just be bolted to the fixture itself to form a ground.

I've heard somewhere that you can't simply swap incandescent bulb turn signals for LED ones without changing the flasher unit for a special LED one, or alternatively use a load equalizer like this one:

http://www.bikerhiway.com/universal-...zer-p-235.html

There are others here, as well as being cheaper the page has more useful info on converting:

http://www.customled.com/PRODUCTS/TH..._equalizer.htm

This is a thread on another forum with lots of explanations and tips. It seems that the fancy named "load equalizer" is nothing more than some power resistors on a heatsink, rated so the old flasher unit keeps on thinking it's a normal bulb.

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...equalizer.html

Something like this:

This site has both the flush mounted lights and the equalizers:

Here is my setup: the front "winkers" (gotta love Chinese terminology) are flush on the barkbusters. The rear were originally mounted directly to the tail light assembly, I moved them later to this new position so they will be easier to see from behind. The tail light also has a moto clearance license plate bracket .

Mine do not blink too fast. In fact they blink quite slowly...on for about 2 seconds then off for about 1/2.

The conditions aceptable in the UK vehicle inspection, for example, is that they must flash at a rate of between one and two times per second (60-120 times per minute), so yours would probably be failed there.
WHAT do you carry in that box?

The flasher (capacitor) requires a certain rate of drain to work correctly. If the new LEDs have a similar wattage as the stock bulbs they should blink at about the same rate. Typically an LED pulls less watts so you end up with slower blinking rates.

Solution is to change the flasher with one rating for less watts. (Like Forchetto mentioned)
