New to the site. Eric in Mi.

Hi all, great site! I just signed up in May and love the site. I am an old guy in Michigan and have a bunch of small bikes along with a few motorcycles. I have raced MX for 37 years and work on bikes and ride as much as I can. I am very impressed with the quality of some of the bikes coming out of China. I believe the "bang for the buck" is better than my younger years when Japanese meant cheap. Look what happened to them as the ones who survived the test of time, are sought after and loved by all. I really don't see too much difference with what is coming out of China right now. I have been able to find parts for all the ones I own and from the numbers of units that are hitting our shore, I think the parts and the bikes are here to stay.

Having grown up in Michigan near the former auto capital of the world (motorcity) I would have bet the farm that Toyota would NEVER be the #1 auto company in the world. All I hear on the net is how crappy these China copies are. How they are taking jobs from us and flooding us with inferior items. Same thing I heard about Honda as our steel mills closed. I don't make steel but I did have a really nice Craftsman drill set left to me from my father. This old drill set drills through anything. Is it American steel? I wanted to mount removable hard saddlebags to my GL50 TopTank and I used the punch to mark a spot to drill in the fender to mount the bag hardware. Didn't even dent the chrome. I then took my trusty drill set and proceeded to break 2 drills and never did penetrate the chrome let alone the steel underneath. My point is: I sure hope we don't go to war against these people. If we do, don't bring Craftsman drills to the party. I ended up mounting a different way as the fender was not going to cooperate,

These are fine little bikes from what I have seen and are affordable to the masses. A forum like this is just the ticket as we all are learning as we go. We will figure out what ones are good and what ones we can get parts and aftermarket goodies for. I would imagine, the strong will survive and the others will fall. I am happy to be a part of it all and hope with the help of forums like this, we can all communicate the joys and pitfalls of these bikes.

Thanks again for having the insight to have this page. Kudos!
