"the plan"

re-power a Jawa Moped with a 125cc pit bike motor.

Folks keep buying the pit bike (in the crate) before I can get to it. (not being one to turn away money)

So, we'll see. If there is any interest in this I can map my progress.

I have one of those pitbikes, and I think thats a great idea.
That moped's going to be lots of fun and with a little work, may even do highway speeds 8O

Yes, it is the twin to the one in the picture. It was a barn find, and I paid too much for it (the motor is fubared), BUT it has an ownership. As such (a "moped") it is exempt from most laws (including inspection) and insures for virtually nothing.
Highway speeds should be attainable, I plan on moving the pit bike forks over, and maybe get into some wheel lacing, as the disk brakes (or some sort of disk brakes) will be required. The rest of the chassis will require some work.

I don't know if anyone here has driven a Yamaha BWee (Zuma for you American folks) at highway speeds (60mph+) but it is truly a scary thing, a white knuckle experience I hope to avoid with this moped.

I had a BWS50 that would do 90km/hr. I found it quite comfortable, actually.
When I was in Mexico, I had a Suzuki 125 Burgmann, almost identical to the BW, but a 125 4 stroke. It did highways speeds, and was a blast.
That moped on OTOH, maybe not so much

Sadly I have an early BWS (pre 00), shorter wheelbase (upright cylinder), drum brakes, and spring suspension (no dampening).

New pit bike on it's way, (slow boat from China) should be here in about a week.

My first dilemma is the front tire. Without building a wheel I seem to be confined to a (gasp) Cheng Shin front tire (C109 2.75-14), no one else seems to make a road tire in this size? The "up side" is the thing is rated for 92mph (I was hoping for something "nice")
Any ideas?

The steering stem between the two looks close. Close enough that a minimum of machine work will be needed to mate the Chinese forks with the Jawa frame (fingers crossed).

I'm *thinking* about motor mounts.

Pedals? Keep, or discard?
