Zongshen 200GY-2: LED Turn Signal Conversion

Last year I converted all my Zong’s turn signals and indicator lights to LEDs. The only incandescent light on my motorcycle is my 55W/60W, H4 halogen headlight.

I tried using a number of different electronic flasher units from the local auto parts stores to drive my LED turn signals, but none would work with all 4 turn signals. :( Therefore, I bought an LF1-S-Flat, “Motorcycle Type” Flasher from Super Bright LEDs.

At that time I also purchased a number of LED bulbs from the same vendor. Initially, I wished to use my stock turn signals, so I bought four 1156 LED bulbs, each with 19, amber, wide angle LEDs, part # Amber 1156-A19, Wide.

I also wished to convert all my indicator lights to LEDs. Therefore, I bought some small, wedge-base LEDS. For my turn signal and neutral lights, I purchased two green bulbs, with 4 LEDs, part # WLED-G4, with a 32-degree viewing angle.

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...2703#315x-xLX3

I also purchased 2 white, single LED bulbs for my speedometer, part #WLED-W-x, with a 120-degree viewing angle.

For my high beam indicator light, I bought a blue, wedge-base bulb, with 6 LEDs, part #Blue T13-B6.

As with the Yamaha TW200, my Zong’s turn signal indicator uses a common ground wire for both left, and right turn signals. Therefore, I bought some diodes from Radio Shack. I then soldered a diode in line with the hot wire leading to each turn signal bulb socket, as shown in the following thread.

Since I have also installed a DRC Edge 2 LED tail light, I have removed a large load from my bike’s electrical system.

Therefore, I had enough power to recently convert to a 55W/60W, H4 halogen headlight.

I also had enough power left over to switch to a larger, more powerful horn. Therefore, I recently installed a 125 dB, Fiamm automobile horn on my Zongshen motorcycle.

I am very pleased with my LED turn signals and indicator lights. The LED turn signals are very bright, even in the noonday sun. The Zong’s indicator lights are also very bright. In fact, my indicator lights are now easily visible in the brightest sunlight, even when I am wearing sunglasses. Indeed, the high beam indicator light is probably too bright at night, so I would suggest that others get a 4-LED bulb, instead of the 6-LED bulb I installed.

After breaking several turn signals while riding the trails, I have recently switched to smaller, LED turn signals I purchased from Hoosier Garage.

These turn signals are small, lightweight, very bright, and inexpensive. I prefer these dedicated LED turn signals to the conventional turn signals, with LED bulbs, that I originally installed.

My Zong’s electrical system has worked very well after this conversion to LED lights. I am particularly pleased that this conversion left me with enough power to convert to a much brighter, H4 halogen headlamp, and a much louder, 125-dB horn! I am certain that I am now much more visible to other motorists, and my horn is now loud enough to gain their attention! Therefore, my conversion to LED turn signals and indicator lights has greatly improved my safety while riding my motorcycle. For safety reasons alone, I highly encourage other China Riders to make the switch to LED lighting.

My Zong, if it exists, is also all LED. In addition to the same taillight you have, I added another 6 LED light strip below the plate to serve as an extra running light for visibility.

Didn't work.

Maybe I'll put red color on a 55 watt halogen and point it backwards.

Think a teenage girl would see it? Maybe a siren?

Never mind, sirens and red lightrs give me flashbacks.

I REALLY hope I get my Zong back, hopefully in the same perfect condition I got it in.

A teenage girl does not see anything while talking on the cell phone. However, this does not prevent her from speeding along at 90 mph, and hitting motorcyclists from the rear. However, I'm sure she cried, and told the policeman she was very sorry she almost killed you.

Thanks for details. I am probably going to get a set of the LED signals for my CL. It will need all the help it can get.

You are welcome, Allen. You also might want to check out the universal LED turn signals from D2Moto; I believe these LED turn signals offer very good value for the money.
