Lowering seat height

This may have been posted elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. i was wondering if anyone has ever lowered the seat height on any of their bikes? If so, how much? what is the best/most effective solution? In particualr, with they GY5 model. Waaaay to tall for anybody but me at 6'1"

Shorter shock, lower the forks in the mounts. Even those will only gain you alittle bit.

You can also mod the seat.

or, if one will fit, a 2005 bashan gy125 / por apache 125 seat . they have a lower profile than alot of the newer bikes, more curved down where as the newer stuff is usually flatter. i used one on my bike and its about 2" lower than the 2008 seat that was originally gonna be used

thanks, fellas. I'll let you know what I end up doing. No hurry, though. She's still getting used to the clutch and all on the gy3. Entirely too soon to even consider the gy5 yet.

would smaller diameter wheels work? probably not the best answer but just thinking out of the box.

That is a definite possibility, Alan. If Brian switched to 16", and 19" wheels, the seat height would drop an inch. However, I think he would then be limited to dirt bike tires. Also, this option would cost more than the other suggestions.

Depending upon how faithful the copy is, maybe a lowering link intended for an XR or CRF would fit.

This may be the best idea yet.

Lower the forks in the tripple tree and you're good to go.

As far as lowering links for gy-2 and gy-5 i could find nothing . however the link is steel and a good welding shop could extend it . center to center it's 3" will lower 3/4 to7/8 of an inch for every 1/4 inch added . I was going to do it myself , but i now favor my current ride hieght .

On my 07 bird, I removed the old link, measured it at 2.6", got apiece of 1/2 inch s.s. plate and a 6' length of s.s 1 1/4" round stock form a local fabrication shop scrap pile, cut and welded the pieces together, drilled on the bench press with x,y table to 3.8" between bolt hole center's and installed. It lowered the back end about 3''. now I can sit on it and my feet are both flat on the ground. equipment needed: drill press w/ x,y table , 41/2" angle grinder w/ cut off disks , crackerbox a/c welder, 318 3/16 rod. Elapsed time- about a short rack. I think that going to 4" between bhc's would work out great too. Now to lower the front 3". javascript:emoticon('') lots a luck - jack

Jack, I'd love to hear more about your XY table, since there's one in my future. Is yours offshore? Are you happy with it? How's the lash?
