Chinariders Assault Transamerica Trail, May 07--Postponed!

Update--Unfortunately I will have to postpone my journey till later.

1st Annual C.A.T.T.

When: May 17, 2007 0900 hrs
Where: Jellico, TN, the gas station just west of the I-75 exit

Day 1--Meander southwest to Lawrenceburg, TN
Day 2--Continue on at a blazing pace to Corinth, MS
Day 3--Along the TAT to the Ark Border

This is all totally speculative and open for discussion. Come, ride for a day or all of it. Or keep it going westward.

I will have to head north on Monday May 21 to meet up with a Veterans group that is coming in from Ontario, Ca. I'm planning on meeting them in Wentzville, MO and riding back to KY with them.

Any input is appreciated!
G.

PS--This is also assuming that the pile of parts in my garage more closely resembles a motorcycle by then!

Sounds great. I will shoot for one in a couple of years, LOL, as this year is a little too soon to get it together for. I think Deputygene is going? I guess the cars who speed through his town will be able to breathe a little easier while he is on the trail with you!

i will pass on that ride with deputygene. don't get me wrong i like cops, just far away from me.

my vices and their laws do not get along.

i would be better off living in british columbia for that but i hate cold winters living out in hawaii and florida spoiled me.

but seriously i would love to go on a trail ride through mountains. i can ride with trubattleax and his wife to get up there. i will tell them about this thread and see if they want to do it.

I still am wanting to go, have been having problems with my rear brake. Hoping to get some warranty replacements from the dealers. Did the rear brake adjust thing, still locks up. The dealer has had the bike for the last couple weeks now. I would like to go to a rear drum set up, wonder if Tank has any of those left?
On another note, I have just purchased a second 1973 Yamaha TX 650 (same as an XS 650) and have been trying to work on that. Hope to have them both up and running in the future.

Update

Update, after about three weeks at the dealers he thinks that maybe the sagged out rear shock on my bike is letting the exghaust sit too close to the back brake and that is causing the overheating issue. He is trying to get me a lifan shock now. I don't know if it will fix my brake problem, but the back shock was pretty much toasted anyway. I know the older Tank bikes were showing a rear drum, I told the dealer to check with the factory and see if he could get me one of the old rear drum set-ups. I am tired of the rear brake problems.

Yep, don't give up hope Gene! Still got a month + before the scheduled departure and that is not set in stone. My pile of parts is smaller today and it actually looks like a motorcycle now but I've still got a ways to go on mine.

Got the Roketa DB-07A. Totally stripped it down to the bare frame and engine and then started rebuilding. The only really noticeable change is the 4 gal. fuel tank and the Trakmaster tires. But a closer look would reveal over 50 self-locking nuts and a variety of minor upgrades. Should have my 520 conversion from Bruce in a week or so.

I've really enjoyed the building process but got slowed by the foul weather we've had for the last month.

Well mine is still at the shop. Interesting thing happened sat night though. I was working night shift and an alarm call came in. I wasn't far from the shop where my bike is at for repair, made it there in like two minutes. Upon arrival saw a male suspect coming out the smashed front window. Gave chase and was able to catch him, after hitting a chain link fence. He was in the process of trying to wheel out a redcat 150cc dirtbike!

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I noticed at least one member who posted in this thread is still posting, so I thought it better to post here and not start a new thread.

I am currently planning to ride the TAT in the summer of 2009. Roughly 14-16 months from now.

I am seriously considering splitting the ride in half and riding the eastern portion in 09, and the western bit the following year around the same time. I am planning the split at Pike's Peak, if I do split the trip.

I do NOT currently plan to attempt the ride on a "China bike". If they had a larger displcaement, maybe...but for now my plan is to enjoy a GY5 until I can get my hands on something bigger.

I would, however, be interested in trying sections of the TAT in Tennessee this summer...maybe for a 2 or 3 day ride to scout a bit and see how the GY holds up.

Any thoughts? Anyone up for this?
