Harbor Freight, Heavy-Duty Chain Breaker

Several days ago I installed a new drive chain on my motorcycle. I needed to remove two links from the new chain, so after I ground down two pins with my Dremel tool, I got out my trusty Bikemaster/Tusk chain breaker.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/65/21555/ITEM/Bikemaster-Chain-Breaker.aspx?sst=RR|21555

Well, this tool wasn’t very “trusty” this time. :( As I started to push one of the pins through the chain link, the tip of the chain breaker broke off!

Fortunately, I remembered that Harbor Freight sold a motorcycle chain breaker tool! I drove to the local Harbor Freight, and found the following tool on sale, for $9.99.

The Harbor Freight, heavy-duty chain breaker easily pushed the pins through the chain link, and I finished the job in time to take one of my favorite rides.

The Harbor Freight tool is greatly superior to the Bikemaster/Tusk tool I had used previously. Therefore, I highly recommend the Harbor Freight, heavy-duty chain breaker!

P.S. I love Harbor Freight!

Great report. I have had my eye on that and have wondered it it was up to snuff. Now I know. If I do get one, it will end up in my tool kit with some extra chain. I already have a couple of master lincs but if I break a chain mid link, I'm pushin the bike home.

It only makes sense a Chinatool would work on a Chinabike! Thanks for the input, Spud!

When Q's chain is worn out I'll also go with a Tsubaki.

Thank you for kind replies, gentlemen.

The sturdy handle on the Harbor Freight tool unscrews for easier, more compact storage in your tool kit. This tool also come with an extra, heavy-duty extractor pin. After using this tool, I never again want to use a flimsy chain breaker!

The Harbor Freight, Heavy-Duty Chain Breaker is currently on sale, and it is an exceptional value at $9.99. If you are making a trip to Harbor Freight, be sure to pick up one of these tools; you are not going to find a better deal than this!

You're welcome, John. Indeed, this Harbor Freight tool is very tough, and very durable. If you compare this tool to a light-duty chain breaker, the difference is dramatic. This Harbor Freight tool is a very good deal at its regular price of $15.99; it is an exceptional deal on sale at $9.99.

There is some good buys at harbor freight. This is one of those items that is nice, but you don't need a top of the line model.

I agree. This is a very nice tool, and you can't beat the price. You can't buy a flimsy chain breaker for less than $9.99.

Darn it! I was at harbor freight at lunch time picking up some cut off wheels and a die grinder and forgot to look for the chain breaker.

That's OK; make a note to yourself, and pick one up tomorrow, Cal. They usually charge you $3-$4 for a replacement tip for one of the light-duty chain breakers!

I've tried that method, WA. Using the chain breaker works faster for me! However, as always, YMMV (your mileage might vary)!
