ebay and when to use buyer protection

so i ordered a air filter on 1/30/11 thats when i paid for it, it is now 2/6/11 so a week to the day. the listing said nothing about how long it takes to ship and i have never had a problem with a slow shipper. most times once i pay for the item it ships inside of 48hrs. but this time around its been exactly a week with out a single email from the seller, i emailed them yesterday asking when it will ship, so we will see..

just wondering if you guys agree that say on tuesday if i have not heard from the seller. is it time to file a claim against ebay ?

i always feel like i treading a fine line on ebay since sellers refuse to leave feed back for buyers untill the buyer leaves them feed back first.. then even as a buyer once you pay for the item youre job is done. but yet if you leave not so great feed back then the seller leaves you negative feedback even tho. you paid the for the item seconds after clicking buy it now and youre job as a buyer is done and over with you get screwed for being honest about the seller...i think ebay needs to force the sellers to leave feedback first since the buyer completes their part of the transaction after paying for the item.
that way if a buyer gets his item 2 weeks late, no communication from the seller buyer can say that in feed back with out having the seller make some stuff on the buyers feed back just to get even..

IIRC, eBay changed the rules last year; I think that a seller can no longer leave negative feedback for a buyer.

I don't get too excited about shipping times from sellers. Most of them are regular people, and I never know what they're facing that week. As long as they respond to my messages, I'm happy. If I was in a hurry, I'd buy the item over the counter.

thats why i didnt worry about the shipping time last week. but i did assume that it would ship at some point during the week. i know if the seller is on vacation ebay puts a notice up on the items listing at the time saying that the seller is on vacation and all orders will be shipped when the seller returns on xxxx . there is no notice of that, and no emails saying hey its going to take me x amoutn of time to ship.. im in no rush but once some one has my money for something, at least keep me updated..

Agree with W&G.
I give 'em a holler when I pay for the item, just to check in.
If I haven't received a reply in a week, I e-mail them.
I've had a couple of "hmmm" moments, turns out they were busy and couldn't get the item packaged.
No problems, so far.

we'll see like i said im in no rush, i did email them and was nice about it. believe i said something along the lines of

"i bought this item about a week ago, i have yet to get a shipping confirmation email or any information concerning the shipping of this item. just would like to know a ball park time frame on when the item will ship out..

thanks
mike"

so ya we'll see, just wondering at what point you guys would resort to that. never had a seller take a week to ship with out some kind of email or something letting me know what was going on..

plus i got a very nice air filter and outter cover for about 12 bucks after shipping.

I do have a "rule" I follow.
2 weeks from payment if I haven't heard from the seller.

So far, I've received a message or e-mail before that time with an explanation and apology for delayed shipping.

I've waited up to 6 weeks to receive ebay items... Last one the seller didn't even ship it for two weeks! When I emailed him to ask what the status was he apologized profusely and said they were having some shipping problems and that he would refund my money + shipping if I didn't receive the item over the course of the next week. I think it came in the next day or two so all was cool. Usually I get my items at the post office about 2 weeks after I win the auction. I've bought a lot of stuff and never gotten stiffed yet, like W&G said, most sellers are regular people and sometimes they don't get things out as quick as they hoped.

Sellers can not leave a negative or even a neutral anymore. I think I have bought from that seller also and did not have any problems. Just giving them a heads up that you have not received the item will alert them to any problems with shipping.

If you used Paypal then you could open a dispute with them for none shipment. That seems to work for me on slow non responsive sellers.

I've only once had an item not arrive, it was years and years ago, but it wasn't worth a lot, I didn't leave any feedback because I didn't want a retaliatory negative left for me, glad that has changed now. Other then that I haven't had any problems, my throttle cable took a long time to get here, but I expected that. Sometimes sellers don't mark their items as sent either I think.

This can happen sometimes if they don't print labels at home/office.

In the 10+ years of ebaying I think I only left one negative feedback and have never received any.

That's really good feedback, I've got 100% but on a much smaller scale, I'm around 130.

well i got a email from the seller today, turns out i have used them a few times in the past.. they did not state a reason for the delay in shipping but did apologize for any problems the delay has caused. i told them there was no problem at all, im in no rush. just once i pay for something if it does not ship out in a week and i have not heard from the seller i will shoot them a email and ask about it.. so it should be shipped today, if not oh well its not like i can start the quad just yet.. but it sure is going to look nice on the carb and allow me to start my air box design..
