I believe you are correct, Andrew. If you get an inexperienced "tech," they are going to recommend a particular speed sensor/magnet kit based upon your fork configuration. ;) Since Trail Tech has not configured a Vapor kit for every model of motorcycle, it's inevitable they had to come up with some such system to help their salespeople make recommendations. :roll: Nevertheless, Trail Tech is still noted for excellent customer service, and good warranty support. :)

Personally, I would not get the Vapor kit they recommended. :roll: You will do best to examine your own forks, and plan the best way to mount the magnet, and the speed sensor. If you explore the Trail Tech website, you will discover they sell a variety of magnet kits, and speed sensors. Inspect your front hub, and figure out the which magnet kit will mount best. Then examine you brake caliper and lower fork leg, and decide which speed sensor will mount most securely in the best position. Then decide where you wish to mount the CHT sensor, and select a CHT sensor the correct size for that application. Finally, examine the various Vapor computer kits, and find one that contains the parts you need. At this point you can go shopping for the best price. :)

If you wish, post some photographs of your front brake rotor, and your brake caliper. Based upon the photographs, we should be able to help you select the correct magnet kit and speed sensor for your XF200. ;)

The first step is to select the place where you are going to mount the magnet. ;) Looking at the following photograph, it appears you have two good choices for the magnet location.

For the first choice, you could glue the magnet to the brake rotor in the vicinity of one of the rotor bolts. A second choice is to substitute one of the Trail Tech, rotor bolts that contains a magnet in its center. When you select the magnet location, you need to determine where the speed sensor will likely be located on the brake caliper mount. ;) The magnet must pass close enough to the sensor to trigger it, but you must also have proper clearance between the magnet and all parts of your motorcycle. I think the magnet bolts are best; however, all of them have hexagonal heads, and I don't know if they will work with your XF200 brake rotor. ;)

Andrew, that's a beautiful and functional dash. Why do you want a Trail Tech?

I agree; the QLink instrumentation is very nice. :) However, the Trail Tech does offer extra "goodies" not available with the stock instrumentation, namely:

Digital Speedometer with MPH (or KPH)
Digital Odometer with Miles (or Kilometers)
Digital Tachometer
2 Digital Trip Meters (stock dashboard doesn't have a trip meter)
Ambient Temperature in Celsius of Fahrenheit
Engine Temperature
Digital Clock

et cetera.

However, the stock dashboard does have a digital gear indicator. ;)

I rode a DRZ400 (Roger's friend Marty's) and it had a TT Vapor. Very nice unit. Much smaller than I thought it would be. Fo me a little too small to see clearly when it was bumpy, but that's OK. It looked solid, well made, light, and very functional. :D

BTW, The Dirt Rat cannot keep up with a DRZ400 on the trail, uphill, downhill or anywwhere. The Dirt Rat does, however, have personality.

The Dirt Rat, Roger and his KLX300, and Marty and his DRZ and I rode 30 miles of trail today. I LOVE this time of year when it's still light after work. :D
