Which FMF exhaust??
I'm looking into getting an after market exhaust for my roketa db07a, looking for more power specifically. I read alot about spark arrestors on here but I ride on the street, I'm not looking for an obnoxiously loud system either. I want something to reduce weight and increase HP. Interested to hear from some people what their thoughts are on this matter.

Spud has had excellent results with an FMF universal muffler: http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...ewtopic&t=8587

I love the FMF turbine core 2 universal on my Sierra. It is a bit loud tho. I like the loudness because it really does alert people to your presence but there are times when I wish I could turn the volume down a little. Maybe I'm just getting old.
|
My hearing must be shot; I don't think my FMF Universal Spark Arrestor is loud. It's definitely not obnoxiously loud. ;) The FMF Universal Spark Arrestor meets U.S. Forest Service requirements for sound levels, as well as spark arrestor capabilities. :) This free flowing silencer will definitely add some power to your Chinese engine. :) The FMF silencer doesn't cost much, looks good, and is much quieter than many other free flowing silencers. I am very happy with my FMF silencer. :)

I have VERY sensitive ears. I wear earplugs all the time while riding now, even on my Gold Wing. Same for my lawnmower, powersaw, and of course shooting. I won't even hammer a nail without earplugs.
Decades of powersports has left me with a little tinnitus and hearing loss. I encourage all of you, my friends, to protect your hearing! Ear plugs and a good muffler! I put a Q4 on my YZ because it was the quietest high performance unit available. I have the quietest insert made on my Two Brother's Racing pipe on the KLX. All my other machines have the stock muffler. My Zong with a Turbine Core I thought was too loud for me. NOT obnoxiously loud, but too loud for my ears. Brother Spud's Zong seemed quieter. Maybe because most of the ride was at lower power settings at high altitude with little or no high speed street riding. Also the wide open spaces in the Rocky Mountains soothe my soul. 8) |

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...lencer-Packing Here's a thread describing my experiences repacking the FMF Universal Spark Arrestor. http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...wtopic&t=10279 I can repack my FMF silencer 4 times with one package of the Lexx MXe Premium Silencer Packing. :D http://i442.photobucket.com/albums/q...dHornet057.jpg Spud :) |
Good point about the packing.
People also need to remember to not let it get wet while washing the bike as this can damage the sound reducing properties of the packing. Maybe the PO of my Zong got it wet. It did not have enough miles on it to have worn out the packing. |
Indeed! My FMF silencer has a very large exhaust port, so I use a big, FMF Wash Plug to close the port whenever I wash my Zong. ;)

Would the same one spud got fit my roketa dbo7a? Or for what Honda model would be my best bet? And if I don't plan to ride on trails any better system to offer more power, around the same price. Than the fmf mention above

Ok cool.
here are some pictures of my exhaust system. let me know if the universal kit would be a good match. http://i.imgur.com/vSRQRl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9JqGhl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xjMDal.jpg http://i.imgur.com/iuPtol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/MSLHrl.jpg |
Your exhaust header seems to have a several bends which might cause problems mounting the FMF silencer. Check the following thread to see if the information applies to your motorcycle. ;)

Just seems the next jump up to a slightly quieter unit is multiple hundreds of $$$. Not an option........ |
If you think the FMF TC2 is too loud, you really should repack it with the Lexx MXe Premium Silencer Packing I recommended several posts above. ;) All lightweight, free flowing silencers need to be repacked periodically.
Spud :) |
I repacked the FMF Powercore (different than but similar to the TC) on the YZ before I repalced it with the Q4 and it did not help in that particular case. Worth trying though.
The Q4 made a very large difference. That's why I'm paying for one on the KLX also. My hearing is worth it. :D On the trail the louder pipes may be OK. It all depends on the engine load and RPM's, and the motor itself. Airbox design matters a lot too. My CB175 has a quiet and smooth exhaust but a loud induction system at hig manifold pressures. Go figure. |
That post made me a bit nervous, having to bend the pipe. won't that change the flow of the exhaust and change the way it works? I'm always up for a challenge, and would like to have this on my bike.
What size would be good for my bike as well? i've found on the net they are marketed by either measurements ie "1-1/8" or by engine size ie "200-500" i'm looking ot get one off ebay to save a few bucks. 2lz- what hondaoid do you have and did you run into the same issue with the mid pipe? |

The silencer packing material I recommended earlier is inexpensive, and will pack the FMF TC2 four times. This packing material is easy to use, and does a superb job with noise suppression; it is also very durable. Repacking the FMF TC2 is a very easy, and inexpensive job; I highly recommend it. :) http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...wtopic&t=10279 Spud :) |

Here's a good price on the FMF silencer from a good vendor. :) http://www.oemcycle.com/Products/Exh...stor_Silencers You might also enjoy reading the following thread. ;) http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...32672aa1da824d Spud :) |
Finally ordered it. Can't wait to install and upload pictures.
|
I can't wait to see this install. I want to put new exhaust on my bike which very similar to yours

I have the same basic Hondanoid that you have...and yes, mine was a super hassle BUT....so far, out of all the folks here who had to install one, I seem to be the only one who had to go through all the heating and bending on the mid-pipe. A lot of these Hondanoids are "build them with what you have in the warehouse" though.....so yours may bolt right on like others here. Good luck! |
I hope thats the case. It should be ariving tomorrow. I will have pictures of success or pictures with tons of questions. We will have to wait and see.
Also what recomended jetting for this exhaust for a pz30 carb, and where can i get them. i live at sea level, if thats a big issue. |
just got home from work. Exhaust is here, excited to mount it in the am!!!!!
|
no luck with mounting it myself, the pipe doesn't line up at all, i dont want to make a bigger job. I want it done right so im taking it down to a shop that was recommended to me from another muffler shop. The guy said he could make a pipe for me and mount it for around 60 bucks.

The FMF silencer is a bargain at less than $110, delivered. :) Even with the added price of the custom midpipe, you will still get an excellent muffler at a very good price. ;) Spud :) |
Dropped the bike off and he said the absolute most would be 80 bucks, and I get it back on Friday!!! So not too bad. As soon as he took a look at the bike he knew it was Chinese.
For anyone in the bay area the shop is called pipelyne in San Jose. The guys at the shop used to race scooters and the office is full of 1st place plaques parts. |

I'd a paid that in a heartbeat...... While it was a fun excuse to play with my buddies....it was a royal pain do to the snakey route it took.
|
Glad to hear that. I know the new carb is recommended, I'm gonna hold off I've put alot of money into the bike with this exhaust, unless I find a really good deal, or know for sure my little bro is going to get his permit.
|
Depending upon which PZ30 you have (I've run across a couple different types), you might find that the slow jet is unobtanium. The 30mm Mikuni is easy to find jets for.
|
Well I'm picking the bike up tomorrow and need to ride it 20 miles home will it be bad or just not run correctly. Should I try and get a truck?
|
Picked up my bike today, WOW the FMF turbine core 2 sounds so good and along with he custom head pipe it for sure adds power and less weight to the bike. The guy added a black header pipe to it which i think looks pretty sweet. It's white in the picture from riding 20 miles. when i got on the freeway i didn't even notice it but i hit 74 mph!!! and was not completely WOT. Im VERY! happy with it, cant wait to get it jetted and have it running properly

Looks like they put a lot of effort into doing a good job. Nice outcome. I'm not clear about the color situation though. Was it painted black? Was it not yet rejetted...?
|
I didnt ask the guy if he painted it or not. i was too excited and he was busy. it seems to be coated in the white silt almost i rubbed some off and the paint seems to still be there. No it is not yet rejetted, im trying to figure that out right now.
|
I'd be careful to NOT run it hard until it's been jetted. The lean condition can overheat the engine, and the exhaust, which is why I was asking about if it was coated.
BTW if you wanted many of us have used flat black BBQ paint which is very cheap and effective. |
Just noticed your tires. Not to be a pain but consider this thread if you plan to ride in the rain...
http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...er=asc&start=0 |
I've been taking it easy. Took it right home. I'm trying to find somewhere local to get jets, don't know what I'm doing where too look or what to look for though. All i thunk i know is i need a 110 main and a 25 slow. I apriciate the tread fastdoc I will be riding in the rain this season, thank god work is close....for now
|
As far as gear goes on Friday I will be fully geared: helmet, gloves, jacket, pants (knee pads), and boots. Growing up I've crashed bicycles, go-karts, mini-bikes. I know how hard and unforgiving pavement is. Open to tire recommendations.
|
Your muffler man did an excellent job, EA! Your exhaust system looks great! :D I knew you would love the FMF Universal Spark Arrestor; it's an excellent value. :)
I agree with FastDoc. You should rejet your carburetor as soon as possible to avoid running the bike too lean, and too hot. ;) I'm unfamiliar with the hondoid carbs, so I hope Weldangrind will drop by and offer his expert advice. :) Spud :) |
