GY200: Wheel Swap

I have a local shop that used to sell Lifan bikes and are no longer an authorized dealer. They have leftover inventory with no desire to sell them, so I can easily go there and pull parts off these bikes and purchase them at very reasonable prices.

After reading a post by forum member Ragehardintothebendies pertaining to a Motard Conversion, it got me wondering. So to make a long story short, I purchased the wheels, hub, sprockets, and chain off of a Lifan 200 III and opted to fit them to my Lifan GY5.

After a little work, I finally got them to fit. The only things to really note are:
1. The bolts that hold the brake rotor onto the front wheel will hit the stock caliper. I replaced these bolts with the same size bolt only with a beveled head. I then had the holes on the rotor drilled out at a machine shop so that the bolts would fit flush with the rotor.

2. The stock drum brake hub will not fit. I purchased the hub off the Lifan 200 III street bike to solve this problem and simply bolted it on.

3. The III street bike employs a 520 pitch chain and sprocket. The stock chain and sprockets on the GY5, I believe, are 428. Purchasing and installing the sprockets and chain off the III street bike, solved this problem.

This photo is from before I had a chance to put the chain on.

I've seen a few of the sport bike rear hubs come apart, so just keep an eye on it. Nice work

Looks nice.

How do you like the counterbalanced engine? I hd a CB with that moto and did not appreciate a difference.

I believe they are 18" rims. Looks like the swap went pretty good.

They are practically the same. Made of the same too-heavy steel as the rest of the bike.

I love the counterbalanced engine. Rode a CB once without it, and my feet fell asleep from vibration.

I'm surprised. I thought they would be an alloy of some sort.
