Interesting because I didn't think that a gear box was needed on an electric bike.

It doesn't appear to be a function of need as much as increased control over the massive torque. I'd love to try one, but not at 10 grand. 8O I bet the six speed version flies.

Nice find, Daddy! The linked article reports the gearbox increases performance, and control over the electric motor. That bike looks like a lot of fun, but limited range is the Achilles heel of electric motorcycles. :(

Well, the range is a problem, but for me and the Lifan, at most on a sunny afternoon here I'll grab my favorite wife or child at the moment and head out the door. The furthest we ever went round trip was about 35 miles over some stuff that was more technial than fast. But, imagine same trip with your LEAST favorite wife or child with you and a fold out solar charger. You could go "just a little further" and send them packing for gas while you ate their sandwich  . But not @ 10 grand.......
I'll bet it is a kick in the pants tho and I would LOVE to give one a shot. Think: no vibration. Who is in vegas this weekend? daddy 8)

I read a parallel article on Motorcycle.com. It looked to be more interesting than the generic electric wheelchair/'motorcycles' that have been out lately but for me I don't think I will ever be interested in non-internal combustion vehicles.

Sounds like a cool toy but i dont see it being mass produced. It has no advantages over a gas powered bike that would make up for the short run time.

Just a reminder: if you guys want to read more threads about electric motorcycles, we do have an Electrics forum.
I think the electric motorcycles are a good idea. However, I don't like the high price, and the limited range of these bikes. Spud

This ain't got nuttin' to do with electric bikes but does comply with the thread about what I'd give up the Lifan for.
If I can't get the title/license issue straightened out with the Hi-Bird and IL by the end o' July, I'll be hauling the bike back to my sisters place in WI and giving serious consideration to one of these, http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/mo...lassic-c5.html and in that color. The local dealer is 'local'.

I think Enfields are fantastic, but they're now coming with fuel injection, and I prefer simplicity on a bike like that.
