Newb from NC!!!

Hey guys, I have just gotten into these china bikes and have to say, at first I was thinking they were junk. But after only a few rides I am really starting to enjoy my new to me 2007 United Motors Dtf 200!!! She has a decent amount of torque and even my buddy who has a cr250 has said WOW! With almost no gas, just off idle she has no problem pulling my fat butt right up a good sized mud hill with ease. Sits at almost a perfect height, and is simply a good bike! I traded a sea doo for it and cant say I regret it at all! Now,

what are some good mods to do to this thing! You know, same thing everyone always ask!! LOL exhaust, carb jetting..power mods more or less. I have read on here you guys say stick with the china motor..but frankly it is a little low on the power. So any help in that department would be great.

Here is a pic to make you pic guys happy!!

Nice looking bike! 8) Except for the colour, it could almost pass for a CRF230.

The standard upgrades apply: low restriction air filter (like a Uni pod), 30mm carb (jetted according to elevation and plug readings), low restriction exhaust (you may already have one), decent NGK plug wire.

Beyond that, ride it and enjoy it for what it is.

Welcome to these forums; we are glad you joined us! You certainly know how to start off on the right foot; you posted a photo in your first message.

I agree with Weldangrind; he knows his Honda engines. If your exhaust is restrictive, you might consider an FMF Universal Spark Arrestor.

As for the upgrades, figures its about all you can do. I rode her a decent amount to day and was pretty damn surprised at what she could do. DID find out to stay away from rocks though...seems bikes are not teh best in rocks! LOL Anyway thank you all for the help and hope to get to know you! Not to mention become a valuable part of the forum!

I think the U.M. dirt bikes have a pretty good reputation. I like the full perimeter frame on your bike. Your bike also has good tires, and good ground clearance. I particularly like the luggage rack on your bike! If you have time, take some photos the next time you go riding. We would love to see you post a thread in our Ride Reports forum.

As with most chinese motorcycles, your bike has a clone of a Honda engine; therefore many of us call your bike a Hondoid. My Zongshen 200GY-2 (a.k.a. Zong) has a copy of a Yamaha engine. The QLink bikes have clones of Suzuki engines. Whenever we speak of chinabikes in general, we are usually talking about the Hondoids, which constitute the large majority of Chinese motorcycles. If the bike doesn't have a Honda engine, we will specify the bike in question by describing it as either a Zong, or a QLink.

Are you sure the UM DTF200 is a dual sport motorcycle, and not a dirt bike? Do you have turn signals on your bike? I know UM marketed both a dirt bike, and a dual sport bike. However, since United Motors is now out of business, I can't find the information to distinguish between the two models. :(

If the bike doesn't have a title, it might be a dirt bike only, and not street legal. If that's the case, you need to check into North Carolina laws regarding the possibility of getting a license plate for a dirt bike.

Banditz, to further complicate the matter, Zongshen also copied Honda engines; I have one.

I test rode the UM dirt bike before I bought my Zong. If I remember correctly, this bike had mirror mounts, but no mirrors. The bike also had a wiring harness, and a turn signal switch, but no turn signals were installed. I also believe the dirt bike lacked a speedometer.

However, it sounds as if the requirements for getting a license plate for a dirt bike in North Carolina are very similar to the requirements in Idaho. If, indeed, this is the case, you shouldn't have any problems getting a plate for your UM motorcycle.

Hey Timmy! I live in CONCORD NC... Let me know and hopefully we can get up sometime!

Spud, yeah man..I have YET to have time to stop in and see what all's gonna be needed. But HOPEFULLY I can get the title! I saw a enduro on the way back from the lake today riding down the rode...looks so damn fun!

As far as for the mirrors and stuff you are correct! No mirrors, BUT mirror mounts!, No speedo, but a harness! No turns, but a turn signal switch!

One thing I am wondering...I have jumped this bad boy a few times and the suspension is SOFT! I bottom out on nearly every jump..even the small 3-5 footers. I did 1 that was MAYBE about 17 foot or so and about 7-9 foot high and I thought for sure I was gonna dump it...I bootomed out the ENTIRE bike...the frame even hit on the bottom!! HOW can I make this baby more weight friendly? I weigh in at 245lbs on a good day and about 250 on a bad one..so i know i'm not light..But geez...as is I can barely go off a curb without it ramping my butt off the seat!

It sounds as if you got the dirt bike version. However, UM provided you with a wiring harness, turn signal switch, mirror mounts, et cetera, so you are in pretty good shape!

I hate to tell you this, but for a Chinese motorcycle, it sounds as if you got a pretty good suspension. The aftermarket support for Chinese motorcycles is nonexistent. Therefore, you are left to your own devices to stiffen up the suspension.

Most of our members stiffen the forks by installing PVC spacers on top of the fork springs. If you take measurements, perhaps you can get someone to sell you a stiffer spring for your shock absorber. I hope others will chime in with their suggestions.
