I think we've gotten off topic...
ohwell, mine gets offroad now too... well sort of... I guess a forest service road is a road, but it has been out in: about a foot and half of snow rotten bark mulch lots of pavement gravel roads about a foot to foot and half deep water crossing very hard potholes gravel/dirt/sand roads at about 60km/h sandy rocky hills So far it has gone everywhere I wanted, kept up (for the most part) with the bigger bikes (group off road rides), and not really broken. I even think I got a little bit of air off a rock that looked sort of like a mini jump sticking out of a gravel road at 50km/h. I have bent my front rim a tiny bit, but still rides good, changed a tube, and had one bolt come out of the rear footpeg. About 1100km so far I think. |

With the new lifan engine in my viva I have hit 70 a couple of times but it cruises good at 60 with 17/45 sprockets and that makes me very happy.

FWIW, mine does 45mph at 6K rpm on a 17/45 setup.

On the viva motor you could get up to about 65 but the engine was way up on rpm's. The lifan motor all around runs a good 1500 rpm lower than the viva at all speed comparisons. Also the gears on the lifan motor are spread out better so you actually use your gears not like the viva that gets you to 5th gear in about 20 to 30 feet.

BUMP That works out to 9333 rpms @ 70mph. Think i'll spring for that combo on my VIVA.

with my current setup which is I think 17 42...not sure if when they took the liberty to change sprockets on my bike they changed the front from stock. BUTTTT... i run 55mph at 6000 rpm. It is hard to believe how much harder the bike seems to run @7000 than at 6000. 6000 is much better. at least imo.

Hmm, now that i think of it...
Probably should gear it so you reach the peak of your power band at 65-70 so you will have less trouble maintaining speed on grades and headwinds. :? Think that would be closer to 8k for most of these bikes. :?:

I have a stock UM dsf 200 and it can go 71-72 but it doesn't sound like it likes going that fast. I am 175 pounds and I have to tuck a bit. My bike cruises nice at 55. I would not drive it faster than that for very long. I have about 800 miles so far, and some of my problems with the bike have been posted before.
