Wonderful! Good work!

Personally I wasn't ever impressed the counterbalanced engines were and smoother, and they make less power due to parasitic loss, and they must weigh more with higher rotational inertia.

I think the non-CB engine is an improvement. :P

Glad to hear you got it running! How did the oil look after the second change?

Surprisingly the oil that was only in there for 10 miles or so, several rides throughout the day, was also very dirty looking. Before I pulled the oil plug, I thought perhaps I was being silly draining such new oil, and I was going to see fresh looking oil hit the pan. For all the effort I put into the engine swap, I figured 10 minutes and a few dollars well spent. Just chedked, the oil now looks about like sweet honey...nice and clean!

And the engine is relieved to have such a caring new owner.

Agreed. You've given it a new lease on life.

OK...we have been cleared post op. A weekend of run abouts has yielded solid success. I miss the counterbalanced engine in some regards, but I appreciate and am growing fonder of the simpler non C/B thumper engine.

I must say that up until now, Doc and I haven't really agreed on the merits of the counter balanced (C/B) engine, but perhaps I have seen the light, or at least better understand his position. The C/B engine has it's advantages, while cruising country roads, the bike would roll along like a bicycle, nice and smooth with a very pleasant ride...but the non C/B engine indeeed has more power and giddy up as they say. With a screen name of "FastDoc", it is it really any surprise which motor he endorses.

Thanks for the help guys!
