we need to figure out a way to make more sense of this...

Back and posting again, now that i am legal ;-)

I was going thru and catching up on some of the posts on here and i read a lot about "miles" i was just curious if people are stating miles and converting their Km's from their odometer to miles, or saying miles and just using km's from their odometer?

Just curious, i was thinking someone should decide what we should refer to when making our posts.. i have been basically dividing my kms by 2 and just referring to it as miles... (seeing as i don't feel like dividing by 1.6 or whatever.

you can always multiply by 5/8 if you don't like dividing

However, there was an "issue" with some of the Chinese bikes, I believe the Lifans, that had speedos in mph, yet the odometer was reading in km's...maybe the Chinese thought this was the best of both worlds? :?

Some brands, if not all, figured out how to actually have a speedo in mph and an odometer in miles....

Well, when posting mileage, It is actually miles per gallon, calculated and converted and such. If I am refering to KM's I will post it in Km's. My speedo and odometer are both KM's.

Mind you I can only esitmate distances in miles... Stupid half-a$$ed metric country.

I think that Canada jumped on the "Euro" wagon, thinking that this would be the world standard. Interestingly, England stuck to miles and mph (not sure if this is still true), while you guys went the other way.

I still wouldn't call Canada stupid or half anything, but self-deprication is a good release.

Oh I don't think Canada is stupid, just our half-a$$ed adoption of the metric system...

Construction people still use imperial, lumber is imperial. Our roads are imperial. Then again I guess we can't just move the roads to adopt to the metric system, but I can easily figure out how far 8 miles is... Not sure what 8 km's looks like.

But yeah, I am not saying Canada is stupid, I love Canada... Our government... Not so sure...

Well I have never been too far east, but yes, SIGNAGE is in KM's. But our roads are laid out based on miles. It is a big grid, granted there are many more roads inbetween nowadays, but main roads normaly lie on a multiple of 8. 0, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88, etc etc etc. Every 8 numbers is a mile, 4 is half a mile, 2 a quarter mile. You get the idea. Since these are all equal to miles, thats why I can picture a mile...

That was an issue with several members, so most likely, that is the case with you, too.
