Help finding chain size

I have a 2009 Roketa DB-05. I have looked all over and still cannot find the answer!

Anyway, I got the bike used with a smaller sprocket on it to make it more streetable. I went to put the bigger stock sprocket on today and when putting the chain on it was too small :(

I am wondering how I can find out to see if it is a 428 or a 520 chain or some other size to order a new one.

Thanks!

I'm guessing your have a size 428 drive chain. The pitch of a size 428 chain is 1/2-inch.

Make sure you order a chain long enough to fit your new, larger sprocket. How long is the current drive chain, and what are the sizes of the current sprockets? Also, what is the size of the larger sprocket you want to install?

Thanks for the info spud...that was surprisingly easy!

It had a 428 chain on there. The small sprocket has 46 teeth while the larger one has 56 teeth. It looked like the current chain was about 5-6 links short.

I did not measure the chain as I put it in a zip lock baggie and sprayed it down with oil. I will have to pull it out tho before I order one.

I just ordered a 136 link one from Amazon...it was the same price as the others. Figured I will just chop off what I don't need.

You were correct, Dibe. If the front sprocket remains the same, and the rear sprocket increases 10 teeth in size, you will need a drive chain 6 links longer. Since the chain only contacts half the teeth on a given sprocket, increasing the rear sprocket by 10 teeth would require the drive chain to be 5 links longer. However, drive chains should have an even number of links. Therefore, increasing the rear sprocket by 10 teeth requires a drive chain which is 6 links longer.

Good for you! Remember to measure twice, and cut once. If you cut the drive chain too short, you will have unnecessary problems. Also, always remember to remove an even number of links, so the master link will fit the chain properly.
