Hawk in DC
Haven't taken a ride in a week so I took a spin down to the mall to checkout the cherry blossoms then crossed the river to run an errand. I figured if post a shot of a mudfree trail virgin hawk relegated to dodging potholes and tourists.

I'm guessing you took that photo near the intersection of 3rd Street and Madison Drive. I see the Smithsonian Castle, the National Air and Space Museum, and the National Gallery of Art. The Capitol Reflecting Pool, with the statue of U.S. Grant, would be located just behind you, to your east.

You guys crack me up.
You pretty much got my location spud. The mall was a zoo with tourists and locals out for the whitehouse Easter egg roll. The blossoms were great down by the monument but oddly possibly due to the variety of cherry the east end of the mall hasn't bloomed yet. So ride up Sport. NC is not too far. I'll buy you a beer. And I confess, zipping down the gravel jogging path is tempting though I'd probably get neutralized by a secret service sniper or tazed...need to plan a long trip out Shenandoah way. |

I've seen the cherry blossoms in the spring; they are beautiful. The cherry trees were a gift from Japan, before WWII. After the war started, some people wanted to chop them down; I'm glad they didn't.

That's a ride I've been mulling over... Any suggested routes south for a Hawk rider? I've got the 17/45 combo but I'm not wanting to do the dance on I66 to 29.

I'm sorry, but I can't help you with that specific route. However, I suggest you check a Virginia state road map, and choose secondary and tertiary routes for the entire trip.
