YouTube video
I noticed today that although the bike ran great, there was a ticking towards the end of the ride, when I presume the engine was hottest. The video below was made about 30 minutes after the ride. Does that engine sound right? I know its poor audio. Also, how about the chain?

I'm on dial up so I can't view your video, but these engines are designed so that valve lash increases as the engine gets hotter. That is a good thing and nothing to worry about. There should be minimal clicking when the engine is cold and a pronounced clicking when the engine is hot, at certain RPMs.

The engine is not going to seize. Just adjust the valves and it'll be fine.

This valve adjustment should be under warranty right? as the bike has less than 200km on it and i've only had it for about 2 weeks.

I would wait until after the break-in period before I adjusted the valves. I couldn't tell very well from your video, but they didn't seem that loud to me.

Valve adjustment is routine maintenance. It wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Sounds like valve lash to me. Better loose than tight(at least in engines.)

This thread reminds me of something that happened years ago. Back then, when my papa was still on this planet he and I worked as hearing aid salesmen. Often times, our job was simply to return to a customer and check to make sure their hearing instruments were working correctly.
One time, we went to this old gentleman's house and after talking with him about the hearing aids he informed us that we cost him over a thousand dollars. we wondered why and he immediately explained that he had to have his engine overhauled on the car. apparently the hearing aids allowed him to hear the knocking and ticking in the motor. i guess you had to be there. but its just a fond memory of me and my papa and pertained to ticking engines so I decided to share. |
