Homebuilt rear rack for Hawk

I stopped in to my local DIY steel supplier on Friday and picked up some 1/2" steel tube along with some flats. Total came to just over $9. On Saturday morning I started on the rear rack and about 6 hours later this is the result. Solid as stone and will certainly serve me well.Name: rack2.jpg

Thumbs Up

Beautiful, I bet you could make a great set of pannier frames too.

I haven't decided on rear luggage yet but am leaning towards Tourmaster bags. Pricey but somehow they look like they "belong" on an enduro...

I made a fixture then bent the tube around the fixture adding heat as necessary so the tube wouldn't crimp.

You could go into production with that jig! I bet others here would buy one.

I would have to see what the full price of the steel would be. I just happened to hit the store on a day where they had some offcuts in the bin.... and could get it at 99 cents per lb. I think the only thing I would change would be to use a little wider steel on the mount so there would be some placement adjustability (forward/backward) for the buyer. I wanted mine with some seat overhang but maybe not all would like that. That way they could drill the mounting holes where they wanted the rack installed. Anyone here interested in a rear rack? If there is some interest I will get current pricing on the tube....and figure out a reasonable price.

I know our Bashan WILL 200 needs a rear rack... but my "workshop" (AKA pops garage) could also use a welder

Looks great, wish I could carry things on the back of our China Bike
