I think I heard that GM engines manage to continue to run badly long after other engines have quit.

Oh man, I pulled one apart one time that was so worn out, I removed the timing chain by hand! On that same car, the battery cable to the starter was down to a couple of strands inside of the tube, and it still started without catching on fire. I've also seen distributor counter-weight studs completely pulled out of the plate, so the mechanical advance doesn't even function. I've seen plug electrodes that are non-existant. Despite all of that, they still run. I suspect you're RPOC will be similarly hearty.
