Chain for Hawk 250 question
Just ordered a 428 122 link as I installed a 40T rear (front stock) and 130 link wayyyy to long. Couple questions. I cannot find a connecting link on stock chain? New chain ok choice?

You should buy a chain breaker and a master link. I will admit that I have never seen a motorcycle chain that didn't have a master link.

I would recommend this as well, I followed motocheez's video and used vice grips with a dremel grinding tool, it was the longest 1.5 hours to get a chain on I've ever experienced, my thumbs will never forgive me

Most factory chains don't come with master links. On the assembly lines, they have bins with pre-cut lengths of chain, and then the last step in the driveline assembly is to rivet in the last link. The 5 seconds it takes to use the pneumatic riveter and a steel pin is much cheaper than supplying each bike with a master link. Kind of like a few years back when some bean-counter at Delta discovered they could save millions of dollars a year in costs if they put one less crouton on their in-flight salads...

These bikes don't come with very high quality chains. I reccomend you google up Uni-Bear chains, and get the 428H chain. A lot of guys have been running that chain with no complaints. It comes pre-streched from the factory, and each link is staked four ways....ARH

My Hawk came with a master link as well. I was pointing out that most bikes nowadays do not. My DR650 did not, the Missus' TU-250X didn't, and I don't think the Rebel did, either. My boss down in Florida has an R1, and that didn't come with a master link, either. I don't think very many sportbikes have master links because of the dynamics of the chain spinning as fast as it does. Something about the clip flying off at ludicrous speed and the chain doing a lot of damage as it unwinds from the sprockets. Not really something that would be a concern on a CB.
