VIBRATION FIXED !!!!!!

PROBLEM SOLVED

The top engine bolt was not tight. We took the bottom big bolt in the back out...I snugged it down as tight as I felt comfortable with and then when I went to remove the top one, it was far easier than the bottom to remove. I replaced it and snugged it down as tight as I could and guess what...the vibration gone. The bike is back to the way it was when I bought it.

I still plan to do the locktite treatment but time was short today and I was lucky to get help when I did.

Now of course I feel like a total jerk and a complete moron.

I pissed and moaned and groaned and it was just a loose bolt. I was sure they were all tight but I guess I couldnt get them tight enough by myself while reaching over the bike and ratcheting. with me and gene both on it, we got those bolts really snug.

I also posted on the AL site so that there would be complete disclosure on this issue.

I rode the bike 30 miles after tightening the bolts and all is well.

this is humiliating and i really had to push myself to make this post.

When frustration sets in, sometimes the whole world goes to heck in a handbasket.

A friend of mine was working on his Dautsun B-210 (years ago), it was a nice little car, but he got mad because he couldn't get new brake shoes on the rear. What did he do? He first took a sledge hammer and totally smashed all the windows and ALL of the bodywork, then he set the whole car on fire. Later he found out that the parts store had given him shoes from a Dautsun 510.
Normally the guy was soft spoken and really mild mannered, but he was frustrated and under pressure to get the car on the road as it was the only thing his family had to get around in.

In your case. You buy a new bike and then get nowhere with the dealer (who really should know what to look for). Yeah, I can see the frustration getting amplified by doubt (doubt about buying the bike to begin with). The upshot is, now you know what the vibes were caused by. The next thing that goes wrong you'll probably remain calmer.

OK, and the dealer couldn't fix this? You are not a total idiot--your dealer is!

My vibrations ended up with total transmission failure of some sort (usmc_mustang can now try to figure that POS out--I suckered him into buying the carcass, ha ha sucker --ok, he got a deal on parts)

You mean the top bolt up by the pitcock/gas tank area?
Now you, like me, know where your problem stems from, but it will return before took long. You'll need to remove them and replace with the larger bolts or do the silicone trick like I have. At least you're happy to know where to target now.

Savage..it is the top of the two big bolts on the back of the motor. The bottom one is near the footpeg the large bolt above that is the one that was loose. Would coating the bolts with high temp silicon stuff and then locktiting the threads be a good idea?

Way to go! How did they miss that? I'll tell you how! Jerry must have been working on it!

I have all the bolts for the rear shock linkage. PM me your address and they are your's. You'll have to wait until I get home. I'm on vacation right now.

I don't think they took me seriously when I told them there was a vibration. I mean, I know all engines vibrate but I don't think they took the degree to which it was vibrating seriously. Also, if they did not take the bike for a ride long enough to warm it up good, the vibration would have been less noticible. I assume the expansion of the engine reduced clearances or something and caused it to vibrate more. All I know for sure is that the bike is okay now and I have plans locktite them this weekend. I think i am gonna coat them with that high temp silicon too.
