I have found the the no backpressure thing is true if you have done the right mods to accomodate that setup. ie. main jet for more fuel. 2 strokes are a whole nother thing.

Well you have to do the whole thing you cant get away with just opening up the exhaust alone.
Maybe if you just drill it out a little you might not have as big a impact but what I did was like night and day.(but why even bother for just a little increase ) As I have posted before the K&N airfilter helped a little bit but I got it to run without having to rejet it but a size bigger jet probably would have made it easier to retune but I didnt have the jets at that time. After adding the free flowing exhaust rejetting was MANDATORY, no way around it it just had to be done but I was ready and just installed bigger jets until I got it to where it is now. Went from a stock 98 to a 115 and I believe the first larger jet I tried was a 110 and I still feel that a 117.5 would be perfect. I had several goals in mind when doing mine : 1)get rid of the lousy leaking stock airbox 2)flow more air to increase performance 3)get rid of stock muffler before it starts to rattle apart 4)give the bike a much better sound than that jetsons putt-putt sound These are some of the simplest mods that return the most performance increase IMO. I would guess that it has impacted the fuel ecomony a lot but I dont care since mine is a play toy.(top off the tank before every trail ride) |

I rewelded one of the seams on the muffler and can attest to the tin cans.
I think this summer will see the UNI filter and exhaust mods. I need more power now. Allen

In regards to changing the needle position, I found that it is pretty easy to do if you remove the seat and gas tank. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

This might be a dumb question: why don't manufacturers make bikes with larger jet and free flowing exhaust and save enthusiast the trouble of having to do it?

Yea I wish mine was that easy, the way the top of the carb is located on mine I can unscrew the top but it won't come out, hits the top of the frame. Have to remove the carb, PITA. Oh well, got it set right now I thinks. Wolf |

Then what would we have to do when the weather sucks and don't wanna ride in the rain? Hell, I spend a good part of my summer wrenching my snowmobile and praying for snow. Gotta tinker man!! Wolf |

Hey Wolf,
This the exact mod I did on mine many miles ago. However, I did remove everything inside the can with a press. I agree the increase in performance is negligible. So, I just drilled the '07 bike with a home made 5/8" extension bit and left it at that. Great pics for everyone to see. I like your post. Keep up the good work!! Jason
