Hawk 250cc enduro noob
hello new to the site.
so i just bought a hawk today its going to be delivered in 3-7 and looking to do some mods to it. what do you guys recommend, I am thinking 17/40 sprocket should i go ahead and replace the stock chain if so what one should i use? carburetor i have read that you should upgrade to a MIKUNI VM26 Carburetor is that still the best option to go with? what jets should i use in the carburetor? should i upgrade the exhaust to a after market one if so what do you recommend? Anything else i should replace on the bike that you have run into. any help would be appreciated want to say thanks ahead of time for the help! |

You really dont have to mod anything, but if you are dead set on it, then you have a few options.
Checking out the link in my sig is a good start. As far as carbs, you can tune the stock one, search hawk 250 carb on youtube. Otherwise the Mikuni is an easy route to go. What jets depends on what mods and your elevation/climate. Exhaust you have 3 options. Decat and mod the atock one. This requires welding. Purchase the ebay crf230 exhaust. 100 bucks and requires drilling out or slotting the flange holes. You can spend 250+ dollars and get a Procircuit or FMF crf230 exhaust. Fitment is generally apot on, and can be had with a usfs spark arrestor. Other things are covered in my previously mentioned signature link.

AGM battery http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=20893 is good option. Cleaning those runaway acid from "wet" battery (ie. stock) is nasty job.

As humanbeing suggests, the battery is a good thing to upgrade. I had good luck with my stock battery, but as a collective whole, they aren't really that great. Some have leaked, others have flaked out and died in a couple of months, and being an open wet cell battery you have to keep up on the battery level regularly. There are some good quality AGM batteries out there that won't break the bank. Or you can have more dollars than sense like me and spend the cash on an overpowered lithium battery. As far as things to replace that most of us have run into, first and foremost, would be the stock tubes. They suck.
