Jumping the chain

Dropped the chain yesterday about 30 miles from home and had to dig out the road to get the rear to turning so I could re-mount it. Clever wins the day because that would have been a long walk.

I kept feeling a spin out kind of feeling the past weeks in every bump on the road. Guess I know what’s going on now. I was blaming the knobby tire and shock setting. Looks like the bike just despises the 17/43T set up. O well, the 41T and 43T both lowered the top speed so I’ll move back to the 46T again.

There have been people pop holes in the bottom-end under identical scenarios. This is why mine has a RZ racing chain.

I ran a 17/43 for several thousand miles without issue.

For almost all scenarios*... improper chain slack was the issue

* Other than the rare instance that things will break or happen just for the hell of it

next time just put the chain on top of the sprocket and push bike backwards...no digging required
