Motorcycle transport

Howdy all y'all

What is your opinion on hitch mounted bike carriers? Been thinking of getting one to transport my Roketa long distances. I do have an RK 8" x 5.5' utility trailer, but it is kinda big for just the bike, and too small to easily been seen from the truck. I am looking at several in the sub $150 range.

As long as the carrier is rated for the weight I don't see why not. I've seen the old folks carting their Honda Trail 70s on a hitch carrier on the back of their motorhomes....

I use this for my bikes but it's a big rig for one bike.

My buddy used the hitch mounted style to transport his xs400 to me to fix and it worked great.

I had one I got when I bought my bike the guy gave it to me. I used it several times for the hawk on the back of my jeep. Worked without any problems. Although I will say it was a little scary trusting a square piece of tubular metal to hold the bike when I hit bumps but it did.

If you get one, I took a couple of 2x6s and make a chock for under the frame so I could cinch the straps down and not have to compress the suspension all the way. If you leave even a little suspension travel it loosens the straps when you hit bumps. Does that make sense?

Anyway easy to load, easy to get off, easy to store...and pretty cheap!

On my pickup the rear rack I built out of 5" channel is going to work fine, but with just relying on the square center tubing the bike wobbles around. Mine I can easily run 2 straps to the overhead lumber rack to support both ends. Then I can't open the canopy or tail gate. Mine is basically used for motor cycle recover if the bike breaks down, I don't have to try and haul a trailer to the bike while camping. I hope to never need it.
I would say you will need some additional support brackets or straps.

This is the harbor freight one. I use it all the time. I made a few mods just because I could. Fits a 450 sumo no problem.

put more than 20k on my truck with one off of ebay for $70. no problems. found if you cinch one end of the carrier either up or down to the bumper it stops the annoying teeter totter.

People make cracks about HFT products and some of it is deserved......but..... They've also got some really cool stuff that just plain works and at reasonable prices.

I have the Harbor Freight one to transport my Hellcat. Works great albeit my Hellcat only weighs about 200 lbs. The 12 inch front wheel goes in a little deep and gets wedged in there a bit. On some of the early models the bracket where the rails bolt on to where made out of aluminum and there were some serious issues with it cracking, but they have since went with a steel bracket. It also comes with stabilizer brackets that keeps it from rocking.
