Any carb with an oval opening or an actual choke will impede performance. A VM26 is good but maybe a bit small. A TM28 flat slide might just be the ticket. I run one on my 190. It's not a pumper but it doesn't need one. Carbs are easy bolt on HP for many of these cheaper bikes, including japanese (TTR125 carb is a nightmare).

At 6000 feet the stock carb might work remarkably well, with little to no tuning other than adjusting the fuel mixture screw.
