Does anyone know a good source for a replacement engine for a Tao Tao TBR7?
Thanks Aaron |

Try Tao directly https://taomotor.com/
Pitster Pro sells engines as well that have good power, but might be a little pricey https://pitsterpro.com/index.php?rou...&product_id=77 Try Ebay and Amazon, but make sure the engines are in the US as ones shipped directly from China might get confiscated if they are not EPA certified. You can buy top ends for these bikes for around $150 or less, unless you did something major to the engine like ride into salt water or something like that.

I hate to send people to go buy from txpowersports, but you can always order a Hawk engine. Still only $499 bucks with free shipping. https://www.txpowersports.com/ricky-...0y-a.10002.htm
Most of the engines you will find on ebay are outrageously priced right now, from what I can only assume is freight and taxes. Is your old engine not fixable? Parts for these motors are plentiful and really cheap.

I haven't torn it down yet. I'm just looking for options. I'm pretty sure my connecting rod is toast, as well as the piston. My spark plug is completely flattened, so it obviously made contact with the piston. Who knows what the crank looks like.

If a new engine is required I'd go with Megadan's Hawk suggestion. Or you could always put in a Rhino ATV engine and have a reverse gear for that future sidecar project.

If I was thinking hard about a new engine, I would also consider the CB motor swap. There is a link on here someone swapped CB 250 engine. I think it came out of China though and was around $600 dollars if I remember correctly.

Not Cheap, but likely better quality
I think you could use a CSC TT250 engine. Not cheap, but likely better quality.

Wow $1100.00? Also if the Taotao doesn't have the balance shaft engine, some modifications will be needed to fit the TT engine. A Lifan 200 would fit and there is probably little difference in power if any. They were selling for $400 on Ebay last rime I bought one.

Maybe just strap in a Kawi Ninja mill with straight pipes. You will have the fastest Tao Tao on earth.

Personally I think the best deal going right now for a new motor is a counterbalanced Brozz motor for $478 + Shipping. Plus it has an improved cylinder head like a TT250. Peace Sports does good business.

BTW, the problem with the counter balanced motor that the TT250 and Brozz use is that it will dimensionally not fit in the frame of a bike that has a non balanced engine. If you really have to have the "better" head, then order it separately. Personally, I would just port the Hawk head as it lends itself much better to it thanks to that extra material.
