Front sprocket for 2020 TaoTao 250

I have been a member of this site since I ordered my bike in mid April and I have been reviewing posts to try and figure out what changes I would like to make to the bike. I just received the bike on Friday and have a few questions. I want to do the upgrade to the 17 tooth front sprocket but I had thought I read somewhere that the 2020 has an different chain size than the previous year bikes. Can anyone provide a correct link for the 2020 bike for the sprocket?
From the way everyone talked regarding carb I was expecting it run very poor out of the box but it seems to pull through the rpm range well. It does pop a little after you crank it up to 50 and let off the gas but other than that you don't need to run it with choke on or anything like that and can remove the choke quickly after it is started. Is the jetting different on the 2020 bike?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hey I'm in a similar boat too. My TRB7 arrived maybe several weeks ago and I was going to replace the chain, followed advice and purchased a 428, it was my fault and I should have looked at the sprockets before hand, looks like they upped the sprockets to 530 pitch. Now I'm looking for a chain to fit that won't break my bank. I can't help you on a sprocket link, I was just looking to replace the chain. But Hopefully you know Better what to look for. The rear sprocket is 530-33teeth Im not sure what the front sprocket is. but I would assume also 530 unless their quality control just went out the window.

Hi Nogripp,

I found a post after I posted this to the site (maybe it was your's) which was a big help. I found some 530 front sprockets on Ebay last night night. The post that I saw said the stock front sprocket for our bike was a 12 tooth so I ordered a 14 and 15 tooth front sprocket. I can keep you posted if you like but it may take a little while for the sprockets to arrive.

If you swap the carb or mod the existing, most change the main jet, shim the needle and adjust the A\F screw so the bike does not run so lean.

You can do all of the above if you notch the tamper proof screws on the stock carb ( tons of videos on youtube ).

Not sure if you ride offroad ...street or mix of both, I ride 99.99% street, so my mods and needs are very different.

I was very happy upgrading the 15 tooth front to a 17 tooth and the 46 tooth rear to a 44 tooth.

The stock 70\30 tire tread suits me just fine.

As mentioned, the chain size and sprockets seem to be different now ( I ride a 2019 TBR7 )

The new 530 final drive set up on later 2020 TBR7s

Yep, it seems that all recent (latter-half 2020) TBR7s have the heavier-duty 530 sprocket and chain combinations. I'm glad Tao Motors is listening to it's customer base, as many have complained about the final drive set-up on it for a while (chain too tight, not heavy duty enough, etc.).

The front stock sprocket is a 12 tooth and the rear is a 33 tooth. This is equivalent to a 15/45 teeth gearing for the 428 sprocket set-up. Thus, you could just change the 12 tooth to a 14 and be done with it. I doubt a 15 tooth 530 sprocket will fit, but you sure can try.

Let us know what you find.

You're welcome. It seems that the 14 tooth may be the biggest 530 pitch countersprocket that you can install onto your TBR7: https://www.amazon.com/JT-Sprockets-...0012TWRQS?th=1

Let us know what you find. You are the guinea pig!
