Hawk 250 Petcock / fuel cutoff

Can anyone tell me what each symbol means on the petcock? There seems to be an up, down and sideways. The sideways is a little circle, I can’t tell what the up and down is supposed to be. I’m not sure which way I am supposed to put it and also, is the long part of the petcock dial the part that is pointing at it or the short side? Ie if you say point it at the circle dummy! Which side is “pointed at”, long or short?

Thanks!

What he said but it is kinda confusing and not clear... take a drop of hi viz paint on the short side....often there is an arrow on that end also....hard to see but often there

The best way to remember is:

Counterclockwise is ON, middle is OFF, and all the way clockwise is reserve.

It's a ball valve.. the handle forms an arrow and points at what position the valve is in.
