You don’t really need the dual range if you have a 140cc and up power plant in them .
I also have two that some day I will play with ,I have a Honda atc125m engine that will bolt into one ,and several 125-140cc engines I can toss into the other .It’s kind of strange that several of us have trail 90’s in various states of disrepair , I wonder if we need to start another section for stuffing chineese engines in other bikes ? |

Stuffing Chinese Hondas vertical 110 into older C series Honda frames is a thing here.
Plus most of those Chinese vertical 110 will take Honda Parts. |

I'm asking Lifan to make a VanVan clone, but throw maybe a 300cc in it. Suzuki dropped them and that leaves the TW200 (butt 80's ugly). Personally I could care less about doing 70+ on a dual sport, but it would be nice to have if I needed it.
As for the CT125. Exactly... Who needs ABS on a bike that tops out at 45. Put a carb on it. So what it's cold starting... Most people don't ride when it's cold anyway, so who cares if it has to run for a couple of minutes. Hell, my CB400 took a good 15 minutes to warm up before it ran right. Just hop on and go!!!! |

Well I guess the brains at Suzuki decided it wouldn't work here. Since they dropped the VanVan altogether.
At least I got my VanVan Turd (with 1 mile on it, and purdy Orange). Love the styling. Love the fat ass seat and love the fat ass tires. And for the kinda riding I do, 50 is plenty fast enough. I'll buy the Husqvarna Svartpilan 400cc if I intend to go faster than 50. :-) |

I don't think the dual range would be entirely useless once a larger motor is swapped in place. Not absolutely necessary, but it would allow for some flexibility with gearing.

Another restore project is my 74 Suzuki TC185. It also has the dual range transmission. It runs perfectly fine. In regular gearing it's pretty stout. If I put it in low range, it's a monster and feels like it could climb a tree.
