Looking at your avatar Mav, you could be me, if you had the riding gear. :P IronFist has nothing to do with my stature. IronFist, firm but fair, kinda idea. I'll test a half tank of cheap stuff, if I don't like the results I can top it up with good stuff. I like testing things. ImEazy: My current ride is 36 years old. |

DId consult my owners manual last night and my Viva actually has 10:1 compression ratio. There's no way that 87 oct will run on it.
On high test it'll run better and get better gas mileage and performance which offsets the extra 1 penny per mile.

Actually it's the other way around; you'll get better gas mileage out of 87 because a higher test is less volatile due to the burn inhibitors they use. This is how in a higher compression engine they keep the pre detonation down. I'd go with the lowest recommended for the bike, which will get you the best mileage. As for performance, on an engine as small as these you won't see any difference between lower and higher grades.

In NZ what rating system to they used for octane?
98 octane here is like race gas. My bike is stock, but I may have to try some 91 octane next tank. Allen

OK guys, you gotta be careful here. The US uses a different octane scale then Europe and most all other countries, including China. European / Chinese 95 octane is our 89. It's not calculated the same way. These bikes don't need hi test unless you have done a CDI or compression mod.

I haven't burned enough gas to try yet. I keep the tank full to prevent rust. 8)

I believe it is RON plus MON divide by 2 for the US.
