Oil Leaking Up into The Air Filter Compartment?

Hi everyone...

I have a Viva Xenon Phantom R4i 150cc scooter (GY6 engine).

I recently had work done to my bike including:

new high performance 30mm carb and intake.

high performance V8 carbon fiber exhaust

I had the piston chamber bored out to 170cc and installed the whole bore kit - new larger piston

racing roller weights and clutch springs

new racing magneto

The local shop that did the installation for me said that installing the high performance air filter is not recommended. They advised me to keep the factory air filter on the bike so I did.

I've had the bike out of the shop for 2 days and decided while breaking it in to take it on a trip about 50 miles away.

When I got to my destination, I noticed that oil was splattered all down the plastic under the seat between my legs area.

I noticed a crack in the plastic in the air filter compartment. I saw that oil was leaking from that area. I took the screws out of the cover and saw oil in the compartment and some on the tube leading up into the filter compartment. The air filter soaked with some oil. I cleaned it up and put epoxy on the cover to fix the crack.

What should I do?

Is the bike driveable?

Should I rinse the air filter with water to clean it of the oil?

Should there be oil in that compartment?

Do you have a way of posting a pic of that air filter brother? Kato is correct, it shouldn't be there.

I don't know if they overfilled it or what......I just know that if I open up that compartment there is oil everywhere and te air filter is soaked in oil.

Can I make it back home or should I not drive the bike at all?

I drove it around last night after I epoxy'd the crack and no leaking but I am sure the oil is still making it up into the air filter compartment.

SO IS IT OK TO DRIVE THE BIKE HOME?

I am going to drop the bike back off to the place that did the work on my bike.....but don't want to ruin the bike on the way, ya know?

well if its not smokin why not rid it home,

you've already beafed it up,
how do you know if its over full on oil ? check 1st
if not , get some oil take with you stop and check enroute ,

who did the work on it ? , i'ld be callin them asap,
if its not clangin and bangin, rid it home , easy tho,

the bike runs great with exception to the oil in the air filter compartment

it's a long ride home so i'll stop off half way and check the oil level......what type of oil goes in the 150cc engine?

and right now I am not taking it over 7000 rpm to break the engine in anyway.

should i go slower than that?

first thing tomorrow i will be on the phone with the scooter place that did the work

Not sure on the scooter exactly, but I would think you either have a dipstick of a site glass to check oil level. It probably only holds about a liter of oil.

It sounds like they over filled the oil or maybe upon reassembly put a gasket in wrong and blocked an oil passage causing pressure to build up in the crankcase.

10w40 type 4stroke oil should work.

Why no good air filter??? With the extra engine work a good air filter is like the cherry on top.

or you might check the crankcase breather tube it might be pluged or stoped and causing the oil to pressurize and go back thru the system ?

That could easily be. May have been pinched when the put the engine back in.
