It begins
So I bought a tbr7 D yesterday and it should be coming in about a week or so. I’m super excited. So what mods should I do first.

The first and very best “mod” you can do is properly set up your bike .Adjust the valves tweak the carb ,replace all of the fluids ,properly secure all the fasteners ,adjust the chain ,lube the bearings ,adjust the spokes ,just a proper complete assembly job

Totally agree. Get some miles on it and broke in before you start modding anything.

At the very least, change the main jet to a 110 and and the pilot I believe to a 37.5 on the stock pz30 carb, then set the fuel/air screw on the bottom exactly 1.5 turns out from fully seated. You will need to pull the carb off the bike and use a hacksaw to make some grooves on the factory carb non-grooved screws to open it with a flat head screwdriver.
If you choose a Minkuni clone replacement carb, which I have, then the pilot will be a different type and 27.5 should work. This is completely a personal preference item. See how it runs and adjust as needed in small increments one thing at a time. Other basic thing will be to adjust the valve lash. Open up the access screws on the side where the clutch is. Use a ratchet and alight to the T for top dead center. Then remove the valve cover, loosen the valve nuts, adjust with feeler gauge to proper gap, tighten back up, re-assemble. Grease the wheel bearings too. Then assuming everything else is put together correctly on the bike, enjoy and see what you think of the factory sprockets. If you desire totally off road low end only power, then you may like the factory setup. If not, then many sprocket options to choose from. Some people use a 520 chain, some the 428. Both appear to work just fine. |

Alright guys I got the bike today and it runs great. The one thing that doesn’t work is the brake light for the rear brake. The brakes work and the light comes on from pulling the front brake lever so I do t know

Check that the wires are plugged in. You may need to adjust the brake light switch itself.
