You may have a crappy sending unit. My Lifan fuel gauge was really inaccurate and jumping between readings at times. After reseating connections, etc. with no resolve, I reached out to the dealer and got a new sending unit under warranty. It is much better now.

Additional thought: I saw a guy with one of these TaoTao’s on YouTube that did not have a bad sending unit, but just stated that the gauge was really inaccurate. He resolved his situation by getting a sending unit from CSC that had a longer arm and better sweep. Supposedly the CSC TT250 is a more refined version of the same bike (not my words).
