So....... My neighbor just picked this scooter up not knowing anything about it so me and another neighbor started to help him out with it. A project right?

Anyway it had a dead battery so it was replaced and I thought it a miracle the thing started right up and Idles great but when the throttle is applied it cuts out. I figured old gas but I noticed that the volt gauge shows off the chart. I tested with my volt meter and sure enough with increased RPM the voltage goes up past 17VDC and the motor cuts out.

any thoughts?

Also, how much do you think this thing is worth with no title?

Personally I would never buy anything with no title, on the chance it may be stolen. So to me the value is zero.

Obviously some sort of voltage regulator issue, but I know nothing about how that is done on motorcycles.

That is probably separate from it cutting out. Carb needs rebuilding, I'm sure.

Agree that the cutting out is probably carb issue.

Regarding the voltage... does this bike have the standard CDI ignition with a stator providing the trigger signal to the CDI box through a sensor block on the rotor? If so...

You can get a complete kit that includes voltage regulator/rectifier, Coil/spark plug wire, trigger, CDI box, and in some cases even a spark plug for ~$20!

Or you can buy a regulator/rectifier for ~$15 to $25
