Possible Engine Upgrade for Hawk 250
So Im considering an OHC 250 swap for my Hawk as it needs a little more power. The Zanella 250 engine has a 6 speed transmission and is 17hp. Looks almost like a direct swap. Id bet the wiring may even be almost plug and play. Anyone have any idea? I saw another thread on this topic so couldnt find it so sorry if this has already been discussed.

Looks a lot like the Loncin RE250. Same specs at least. 17hp and a 6 spd.

Interesting. I think Id rather go with something like the Loncin with an OHV.

The Loncin Re250 is a OHC which is what you want. The one in the video is a OHV engine. But I knew what you meant.

That's a Lifan Engine, 99% of the products sold by Zanella use engines made by Lifan.
That one is made by Lifan. It behaves mostly like the Loncin Re250 It was released to compete with the "Corven TXR 250L" which is powered by a Loncin Re250 but then Corven who mostly solds Bajaj motorcycle and chinese adv and enduro motorcycle. Released to the Argentinian public The "Corven TXR 250X" which is powered by a water cooled dohc 250cc engine, that outputs about 24 hp. Which makes that bike a closer competition to the aging Xr 250... |

tbr7 upgrade?
I have a tbr7 and swapped a hawk 250 clutch that matched , any engine upgrades/compatible bikes engine wise that would match the tbr7??Thanks

the cg250 (167fml) and cb250 (166/169fmm) share the same mount bolt pattern. Both of which I have fit into my XL185 frame.
the 172fmm should also fit...as long as the fuel tank sits high on the frame... a counterbalanced engine will require some work depending on the frame regarding the area around the low front 2 mounts due to the balance shaft housing case protrusion... I'm not sure if the RE250 is really worth it as the engine does not quite have enough power to make the 6th gear worthwhile... the PR250 seems closer to that magical 20hp for 6th gear to fight inertia |
