All great points. Keep the throttle cable as straight as possible
I removed it, hang it, and spray silicon lube from.the top. Then with tank removed, find the straightest route with minimal bending to the slide tower. You may also have the slide set too high (idle adjustment knob). Is it still not running. Sounded like it is since you mentioned high idle.
