Hey all newbies comin in

My wife and I are picking up our GY-2's tomorrow morning. Really glad I fouind this sight I'm learning a lot about these bikes and how to keep them running strong. I've been riding street bikes for over 20 years but the wife has never rode anything but a bicycle. It will be an adventure at first for sure. She's quick learner and I know she will do fine. We look forward to the info on the sight and maybe some rides with any Washington riders out there.

Thanks
Marcus

Hi Marus and welcome to you and your wife. I have been riding close to 50 years and think these little bikes are an excellent value and a great bike for a beginner. Light and easy to handle. I'm sure your wife will enjoy her bike.

Lots of required reading here if you want to keep your bike in good repair.

Keep a keen eye on things and you will know what needs addressed first. Next work your way to lesser things. And finally, the all important... mods

Thanks to all of you for the great replys. Well after a couple days of locktite and wrench turning ( and locating a few missing parts at the hardware store) I have them up and running. No test rides for the wfe yet but I took a spin and with a little fine tuning I think these bikes will be ok. Lacking in the power dept ( I come from 1100 & 1800cc custom street bikes) I need to remember that she is in a learning phase and I need to just putt with her until she gets more comfortable. This coming weekend will be some practice runs for her in the back 40 to see how she does. Slow and steady to start with. (god help me I'm not the most patient man on earth) We signed her up for the MSC but it's 2+ months away and she wants to ride now. I guess we shall see what happens. Look forward to all the great info.

Marcus

Take it slow!!!!
My wife won't come within 6 feet of my bike. You are lucky that your girl will even give it a try. Tell her to stay in first till she gets bored. Sure that's not fun for you. The fun will come as her confidence level rises.
