Clutch S M O K E D!
Toasted, after 71 miles on it! Hopefully I can get a replacement under warranty. If not..
I saw an ebay add http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLUTC...mZ180278705614 It seems to suggest the clutch plate is the same for a honda xr 100, which I imagine I can get locally. ALSO: I have a GY-2, this package is for a GY-5.. is the clutch assembly the same? What did they change in the GY-5?[/url] |

The clutch for a GY-2 and GY-5 should be the same. I would however, try and locate the root cause of the failure before throwing a new set of disks. Did the clutch basket and springs fail or just a set of smoked disks? If the disks smoked, the most opvious cause would normally be a misadjusted clutch cable or use of an engine oil which had additives , although weak springs have been an issue with several of the bikes on this forum, although most lasted more than 80 miles and became evident due to slipage before failure if memory serves. If you replace the clutch, be sure it's adjusted correctly and not slipping. Also make sure the oil is wet-clutch compatable.

Did you change the "shipping oil" when you prepped the bike?
This could be the cause! Tigertamer

Frostbite also had early clutch problems, I'm not sure the type of bike, but there is a precedent for a bad clutch.
Liverchip: " although most lasted more than 80 miles and became evident due to slipage before failure if memory serves. If you replace the clutch, be sure it's adjusted correctly and not slipping. Also make sure the oil is wet-clutch compatable. " I'd go along with that Liverchip. I have heard tales of non-freezing shipping oil and gel packs in the carbs but HIGHLY suspect that it's just stories. I changed my oil, because I doubt the manufacturers use good oil, but I didn't think it was antifreeze. Any warrenty on the bike j_jones84???? |

Not me, I've never had clutch problems just a bad tranny which was replaced under warranty (Thank you mini-motors!). The only clutch problem I have is my left hand.

Yah the oil was changed after 15 or so miles. The clutch was mis adjusted right out of the box. Couldn't get it into neutral. Maybe that is where some of the problems came from. Adjusted it, was able to get it back to neutral and it shifted good. Then it got stuck in second gear. Then the clutch was completely disengauged.

I am confused first you say the clutch is smoked, but then you say the bike is stuck in second gear, if the bike is stuck in gear and you can't get it to change gears with rocking the bike back and forth "when bike is off"
Then you need to Look at this. http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...ewtopic&t=5141 a bad clutch will slip and allow the bike to rev higher than what it is sopposed to while bike is in gear, sometimes make a squaking sound, chatter when the clutch lever is pulled in,and and when the clutch finally fails the bike will shift through all the gears with clutch released and not move the bike at all. but it will not bind up your tranny..... unless it fragnates Just my two cents, |

Yeah, I kinda agree. We need more info. I am sure the clutch isn't worn out unless it grenaded inside the engine. Give us more detailed info and we can get you back up and running.
